Ergo Architecture

I would recommend Ergo Architecture to anyone looking for an engaged, approachable and experienced team to help them design, permit and get built a project in San Diego or elsewhere.  We hired Ergo to design an extensive addition onto our hillside home - a challenging design and permitting situation - and were very happy with the results.  The team at Ergo was highly collaborative, helping us explore possibilities while being realistic about our constraints (site limitations, budget, etc.)  Ergo also oversaw & participated in the construction of our addition, a process which certainly provided great learning opportunities for them as well as bringing the designers' insights to the process.  Given the complexity of our project, the involvement of the Ergo team in this stage was certainly helpful in getting our house built as we intended.Though Ergo is a small firm, the experience and professionalism that they brought to our project rivaled that of larger firms.  And in the end, the level of service and attention given to our project exceeded expectations. I had the good fortune to be referred to Steve/Ergo Architecture through a series of two of his architect peers.

On the technical front, Steve has unique experience (professional and personal) with homes set on steep lots, something well suited to San Diego's canyon homes. Paired with this is a sharp understanding of San Diego building and planning sensitivities.

The above alone would qualify Steve for my project. Going beyond the technical, Steve is a gifted designer with a keen sense of space, materials and practicality - a unicorn. His ideas for the addition to my MCM preserved the existing elements in a delightful and thoughtful manner. He's a bright individual with palatable enthusiasm for his work and a collaboration delight. I'm working away from San Diego now and am looking forward to starting our project upon my return.

It should be noted that the cobbler's children and bus driver's holiday are not the case for Ergo. Their best project is Steve's house, it's a project to behold. More...
