Divine K-9

We have benefited greatly with Jorge's Basic Manners and Obedience dog training. Jorge involves the entire family, especially our 13-year old son, who has been able to step-up as one of our dog's "primary people", which is a huge success for us. Jorge offers easy-to-apply techniques to work with your dog, using positive reinforcement. He emphasizes teaching what is "YES" vs "no", which I find an amazing life-skill to have in multiple arenas!

Jorge is the best!  We went to Divine K-9 for obedience school level 1.  We had tried a different obedience school originally before we knew about Jorge, and it wasn't a very good experience - our high-strung dog was seen as a nuisance in class and we hardly learned anything.  Class with Jorge was soooo different.  He was so patient with our dog - he gave him the extra attention he needed, tried to work with his strengths, and made training fun.  We've also had so many training questions since obedience school and Jorge is always happy to help through text or phonecalls, and is great at following up.  He really cares about every client (both dog and owner!) and is super approachable, fun, encouraging and easy to talk to.  We also did a house session with him once because we wanted to learn more trick training.  Our dog (who gets frustrated easily and is sometimes hard to teach) was able to do "play dead" by the end of the hour.  Jorge is awesome with dogs but he is also great with people - he is super encouraging and teaches YOU how to teach your dog better, so that you can have lasting training skills for the future.  We also do weekly playgroup with Divine K-9 which is amazing - our dog absolutely loves it.  It's so convenient because they pick up and drop off your dog at your house.  They give them great exercise and our dog is always super tired for the rest of the day afterwards (which is great :)  They also mix in some training during playgroup, which is super helpful as it reinforces the same positive behaviors that your dog learns in obedience school.Would highly recommend any and all Divine K-9 services.  Best in town - paws down! :) More...

My rough collie Riley and I went to a well known dog training agency here in Madison. We tried a puppy class when he was less than 16 weeks old. I thought we would get to socialize and learn some training techniques. Riley was very vocal in class and excited to see the puppies. The trainer told me that Riley was over stimulated. We socialized with a maximum of 2 puppies at a time. The trainer seemed to have her favorites in class and we were not among them. During the last class we went to the trainer put us in a corner where she set up a fence with a sheet over the top so we were blocked out of sight of the other pups. I felt like we were a burden on the class and failures. We went to 3 classes and dropped out. I had no clue what I was going to do. Then my groomer /friend told me about a great dog trainer, Jorge, who stopped by her spa. She said he was very positive and really knew dog behavior. She said she had a good feeling about him and she was right! I called and it was the smartest thing I ever did! First of all Riley LOVED HIM!! That gives Jorge big bonus points! Second of all he taught us more in the first session that I would have ever hoped to learn! Riley is an active 8 month old now and Jorge really helps me understand how he thinks. He has Riley doing things I never thought he could do with every session. Jorge is very supportive! He gives you his cell phone and it's like having a trainer with you all the time. He welcomes questions and solves problems over the phone. We are not finished with our training but plan on sticking with Jorge and learning as much as we can! He is by far the best trainer you will ever find for your dog! Riley and I highly recommend him! Call him today!UPDATE- Riley is a year old now. We took our training session and had an adventure at small shopping mall. Jorge showed me how to meet people with the building blocks that we worked on at home. I was doubtful when he first mentioned the mall but I was so amazed at how the lessons flowed into a great afternoon of meeting people. I would have never dreamed this would be possible! I also learned that there are a lot of dog friendly places. That means more adventures! Jorge really is a great teacher and thanks to Jorge Riley and I will be experiencing life to the fullest together! Thanks Jorge!Update- Riley is now 2 years old and we have come a long way!! We still have more to learn but as Jorge says, "It's a journey!" I am including a picture of Riley practicing impulse control by having a treat on each paw. I never thought he could do this! Our polite walking is getting better! He does a great recall, sit and stay and I could go on and on. With each triumph Jorge has been cheering us on. He really has and keeps encouraging us along the way. And he smooths over any bumps in the road with his great advice. We couldn't have a better teacher. As I went to update my review I saw that someone had given Divine K-9 one star and I wanted to see what the reason was. There was no reason listed. Which proves my point that there is NO REASON to give Divine K-9 one star!! They are a 5 STAR training company all the way around!! My experience has been outstanding! So if you need a GREAT DOG TRAINER Jorge is your guy!!UPDATE- This is a photo demonstrating Riley's impulse control taking it up a notch! I keep updating my review because I wish I would have had access to something like this when Riley was a puppy. You can read a review but with an involved process like dog training one often wonders how the dog did later in the process. I honestly thought we were doomed after DBF puppy classes. And now my "over stimulated" dog has terrific impulse control among other talents thanks to Jorge Melara with Divine K-9! I love dogs and love learning how to communicate with my pup.
