My wife and I are believers in supporting smaller, boutique type eateries rather then larger, chain places. The reason is simple: their profit margin is smaller, so they try harder to please. Cupini's has a large selection of hand-prepared food, eye-candy desserts as well as sweets to go. In warm weather, there are smaller, intimate tables in a small space between buildings. Just got home from there and I can still taste the delicious sandwich I had: hot panini sandwich with lemon baked chicken breast, fresh pesto sauce, and melted provolone on a French baguette. It was wicked awesome.

The place itself is kind of charming in a weird sort of way. Once we figured out which door to go in, you end up at a deli sort of counter where you order and they give you a number stand to put on your table. You get your own silverware and drinks and then go into another room to find a table. They will bring your food to you.

We were squished in like sardines so that makes for four stars instead of five. And, the parking is atrocious. Good luck on finding a space. But the food is worth it. More...

This place is one of my fave restaraunts in KC. Everything is made from scratch daily, from the pasta, sauces and amazing selection of desserts. It is a family owned business that makes you feel very welcome every time you visit. Fair prices and worth every penny for the quality of food. The chicken & persuito tortellini is hands down my favorite dish here. Best pasta I've ever had in my life! But everything I've tried is truly fantastic!! So I'm reading this story about 10 "must try" places in the KC area to eat that are kind of hidden little gems. 7 of the 10 places are my go to spots, that I thought was kind of my little "secret" spots, so the list already has a little street cred with me because of this. So there is only 3 places on this list I haven't tried, and for some reason this place I had never heard of, so of course I have to try it. I wasn't disappointed. You order your food at the deli counter and sit down in the next room, which immediately has this semi-fancier feel to it than where you ordered, but at the same time just has a very inviting feel to it, hard to explain. The food was great, and they serve wine by the glass or bottle. They have very friendly people bringing you your food, bussing tables and making sure you don't need anything, but not quite in the waiter/waitress kind of way, since the drinks are self - serve, but just in a, we care about our customers kind of way. And the dessert counter, which is the first thing you see when you walk in has a huge selection of desserts. Think old Italian deli meets nice sit-down restaurant meets local hip hangout. More...

Love Cupinis!!! You park on street, in the small parking lot (like 5 cars) east of the building, across from building, or one street east of building. The building is small. Walk in, and tell cashier what you want to order (drinks, food, dessert). If you order alcohol or dessert they are given to you by the cashier. (You can ask to get dessert after or with meal). Then, the cashier will give you a physical stand with a number. Go seat yourself in either of the two inside rooms or the romantic outside alley way. You can take it to go like I do in winter because I only stay for outside seating. The indoor seating could be considered tight but you’ll find cute flowers on your table. Between the two inside rooms you’ll find the beverage station—grab your cup and fill up. Don’t forget silverware and napkins. This place is kind of self serve in non-alcoholic beverage and utensils sense. The bathroom is single stall tucked away in the 2nd inside room corner. Kind of fun to hear them talking in the kitchen. Food is amazing. I do specials they have (last one was a clam dish) and chicken fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli. You can be picky at this place if you’d like (do the “add this, without this” dance). They might charge you but it’s no problem for them to make it to your specifications. You can also purchase pastas, sauces, desserts frozen. They have excellent deli type foods and pasta salads. Great little gem that is perfect for a little romance/date night. If you have calmer friends than mine then friend nights here are great! I often see couples or very small families here. More...
