I'm in town from Houston, Texas and I'm a big fan of kolaches so if this place is a good as it is in the south. I have to say I was very impressed with all their kolaches. I ate one of each and i wasn't let down at all. The gravy and hot sauce are a great addition if you are into that kind of thing. So 5 stars for me! More...

The fact that this place is on the way between my gym and my house is an issue, it's really screwing up my diet. It takes about 2 minutes to get in and out, which is ideal on your way to work. The owners are both super helpful, friendly, and oftentimes working the register when I come in. I would recommend the jalepeno beef kolache with some of the house-made hot sauce! More...

People will try to tell you that Kolaches come from Europe. That's bunk. The ones you want come from Texas. The word "Kolache" is actually Spanish for "best damn thing you will ever shovel into your unworthy pie hole. " Kolaches are what wheat hopes will happen to it when it dies.Seriously people. I discovered this place 10 days ago, and I've eaten here eight times now. I can not accurately convey to you how yeasty, buttery and perfect this bread is. Get it hot, eat it cold, get sausage, ham, fruit or egg in it. I don't really care. Just eat these things now, and forever. More...

This place is a GREAT grab and go breakfast/lunch spot! I had a chance to chat with the owner and kind of get his story. Long story short, he's from Texas and loves kolaches. His wife decided to try making them and home and they turned out amazing! They've sold these at the farmers market and got into this brick and mortar about a year ago. Have been here ever since! A kolach is nothing more than a type of pastry that has stuff inside. In this case, they usually have breakfast still fillings like bacon and cheese. They also have sweet ones with cream cheese or jams. They dough is super pillow-y and goes great in both savory and sweet options. I rarely make it out this way but when I do, I will not definitely make it a point to stop in. It's not much of a sit down spot but they do have a couple high top seats just in case you wanted to hang out. Please, tell your friends and spread the word! More...

Whoo! My Houston, Texas brother (not literal brother) came through and delivered for you Iowans! A taste of Texas German cuisine right in central Iowa! This is how we get down with a savory breakfast in H-town. Decadent meat and cheese filled pastries at a fair price, especially considering the location of the restaurant. There's even a window where you can see the staff baking the goods, a perk I love. I met the owner at the Des Moines Farmer's Market, and made sure to check out this restaurant the next time I was in Des Moines. He delivered. More...

I've been to Texas/Houston a couple of times and never tried kolaches. I honestly thought they were just pigs in a blanket. Then I tried Coaches Kolaches and realized I was very mistaken. We tried a variety of several types and really enjoyed them. Customer service was also top notch. The next time we went to Houston we got finally got kolaches to compare, and IMO Coaches Kolaches are MUCH better than what we had in Texas. Coaches rolls aren't as sweet, which I prefer, and are filled better.  Also, this will sound like a small deal, but Coaches brands their kolaches with the type you're getting. We ordered a dozen in Texas and had no clue which type we were grabbing. And, again, service at Coaches is excellent and friendly! More...

Food is cheap and delicious and the atmosphere in here is good :) the owner is really friendly and spoke with everyone who walked through the door :) Tried the top two best sellers according to the owner: The Jalapeño Sausage & Cheese and the Breakfast Sausage, Egg, and Cheese. The bun was soft and fluffy and the fillings were savory! These Texas Kolaches came with good gravy too. Also tried the Cream cheese & cherry sweet which was delicious! They're celebrating their one year anniversary today (10/7/18) so all Kolaches are $1 off! Will definitely be coming back! :) More...

Based on the Yelp reviews we tried Coaches Kolaches (curious name)A Kolaches is very similar to German bierocks.  Sweet dough was a savory filling.  I had a bacon egg Kolaches.  It was "ok."  It would be better with more filling and some cheese. My companion ordered an egg-cheese.  It had some sausage in it, which was unexpected.  She ordered a chocolate milk.  I asked for a white milk.  They didn't have white milk.  Really?  Chocolate but not white?  That's odd.We asked about sweet kolaches.  The girl behind the counter named some fillings.  She was unsure exactly what was available as they weren't out yet.  She shortly brought us a blueberry.  It was definitely yesterday's, not fresh.  Tasted a lot like a mall pretzel.Overall it was ok.  We'll likely return but it's not a "must go" place.BTW on Saturday they open at 8.  We thought it was 7 so we had a 20 minute wait in the parking lot. Simple sweet bread with savory filling. I'm a fan of baked goods and this place has some decent savory options. I'm used to the Asian bakeries where they place the hot dog in a bun -- almost similar. My top here is the sausage, cheese and jalapeno - good quick snack for $3.Next favorite is bacon, egg, and cheese. The sausage and egg are decent too. Best to eat served warm. My least favorite has been the ham and cheese IMO. Small serving case with treats and there are some sweet options as well. They have homemade hot sauce and gravy for sale as well. Disclaimer: I had never even heard of kolaches before I heard of this place, so this is my only kolache experience. We came in around 1 pm on a Saturday (they close at 2 pm). Coaches Kolaches is a very simple location, with a single display case. It is clean and neat, with a cute chalkboard accent wall that customers and kids can draw and write on. The woman who helped us today asked us if we had ever been in before, and gave us a simple run down of their offerings before we ordered. We got two savory, and one sweet to go. Overall Impression of Kolaches: The bread was very lightly sweet, and super soft without being doughy. I was so skeptical going in, because in pictures they look like they might have a tough crust on them, but they don't. They are supple and delectable.Egg, Bacon, and Cheese: These are smaller than I thought they would be, but they are loaded with goodness. The bacon they use is nice and peppery, and everything melted together beautifully. The ingredients seemed nice and fresh, and it was totally delicious.Jalapeno Sausage: So to be upfront, I am NOT a sausage person, or a hot dog person. They just don't appeal to me unless they've been roasted over a campfire. However, the mister loves them, so we got one to try. I'm really glad we did. I ACTUALLY liked it. A lot. The sausage had a nice "pop" when you bit into it, the jalapeno was present but not overwhelming, and the dough around it wasn't soggy like I would have expected. A++Blueberry: This reminded me more of a danish, but with softer breading. It was okay, but I think I will stick to the savory ones! This place is a treasure, and we are so happy we tried it. At only $3 a piece, I feel the price point is extremely fair given how tasty and fresh everything was. We plan on returning, and telling everyone we know about how great it was. More...
