This place is amazing! They had a power outage and were not going to open until 10 AM but I swear they saw the desperation in my eyes as I needed a caffeine boost before my last final of the semester. One of my favorite spots in town - perfect for a morning work spot or a catch up with a friend.They've recently opened up a "restaurant" side next door. I've only had a few dishes so far but both of them were great. The food is a little pricey but the quality it very worth it. I'm giving you a 3 for the coffee and the bakery side because if I judged it solely on the food I paid $40 for the other day it would be a 1 star review. If I judged it solely on the coffee and bakery side it would be a 5 star review. The food is terrible. Each hot menu item has a ton of ingredients in it that make it a sloppy inedible mess. What a GEM! I look for local coffee everywhere I go, and Federal was top of my list when in Terre Haute. Not only is the interior GORGE, but they have delicious coffee and treats to back it up. Their baked goods are made daily. I tried a pumpkin cinnamon roll (that was almost the size of my head) and it was pretty good, adorned with cream cheese frosting and filled with pumpkin.To drink I got a classic vanilla oat milk latte which was spot on, and tried their cold brew as well which was yummy and full-bodied.If you're a coffee lover looking for a local place to support, Federal is your spot! I was staying right across the street for business and stumbled upon this cafe while walking. LOVE the coffee, and what beautiful decor and vibes! I immediately purchased beans from there for future coffee visits. The desserts are on point too - especially the Eclair which I couldn't find later at this store! Absolutely well worth the stop! We had a mocha-OH MY WORD! Delish! Pumpkin spice latte was great-not too sweet. I don't like super sweet coffees. I deeply, deeply mourn the loss of Clabber Girl Bakeshop. It should have been preserved in amber for all times as culturally AND historically significant to this area & its people. I will forever miss sipping Rex coffee on the comfy couches in that cavernous, comforting hug of a cafe, with Dad. In marches Federal, to fill the void. And it is more than up to the task. I can't speak to the extensive drinks menu as I just take it black, finding both their house drip blend & single origin (Peru today) to be outstanding. The space is timeless -- modern in music, atmosphere & font, but with that original tile floor & pressed tin ceiling now painted a gorgeous deep green. So glad it replaced that awful Corner Grind (with its inedible baked goods, unfriendly owner & godawful coffee). The service at Federal is attentive, the young employees earnest & sweet. The baked goods may be the star here-- muffin tops & cookies do not disappoint but the scones are the star player. I could eat the triple berry every day of my life & die happy. More...

WOW. Just WOW. We just wanted some coffee and breakfast sandwiches on our cross-country road trip and boy did Federal Coffee and Fine Foods deliver! First off, their cold brew is perfect - strong without being bitter, which I find a common problem when cold brew isn't made well. But the real winner was the Egg Cloud breakfast sandwich - delicious is an understatement because it is melt-in-your-mouth fantastic from the fluffy eggs, to the chutney, to the homemade croissant. Found ourselves in TH and needed some coffee so decided to check out Federal Coffee. Really good. Friendly customer service, and a lot of good drink choices. It was late in the day, so pastry choices were a bit slim, but we split a cinnamon bun. They offered to heat it, and it's not done in a microwave, which was nice. I had a small iced mocha and my partner had an iced espresso. Both drinks were good. The small mocha was larger than you would think. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We were looking for a local coffee shop on our drive from STL to Indy and saw this place on Yelp. While it was a couple miles/minutes off the freeway, the reviews indicated that it would be worth it. Glad we listened! The environment was perfect and the baristas were awesome! Our interaction with them alone was worth the drive - they were just so nice and engaging! I had a salted caramel latte and it was honestly one of the best coffee drinks I've EVER had. It was the perfect sweetness, with a hint of salt at the finish. Seriously, so SO good!
