I went last night for Boombox and Late Night Radio. Both incredible artists. The sound was crisp and beautiful at this venue. The staff and security were kind and amazing! I love them for kicking out an obnoxious guy who was getting handsy with me and my friend. He then tried to get on stage which was dumb but entertaining. The rest of the crowd was so fun and friendly and I can’t wait to come back and visit again! More...

This is by far my favorite music venue in Richmond, that provides an up close and intimate experience with the musicians. This has become my favorite venue, largely by saving me a ton of travel miles. The last 3-4 years they've booked so many tours that I previously had to travel to D. C. or Baltimore for. Can't really speak to other genres, but they've become my go-to spot for metal and hardcore shows in Virginia. They always seem to book the right bands in that niche. In the past, if a band was too big for Strange Matter, or too small for The National, then you most likely had to drive to D.C to see them. Not anymore. As with most venues, sold out crowds here can be pretty cramped and difficult to maneuver through. The layout of the VIP area exacerbates that situation, because the back of the room, where you enter, is more narrow than up front. But I've figured out a method for getting closer, and once you make it past the mixing desk, it's a little easier to move. The bathroom is located up front, near the stage - that could be frustrating, if you're stuck in the back of the room...but as someone who is usually near the front, I personally love that feature. At less crowded shows, you can take a bathroom break and get back to your spot before a song even finishes. Another plus is that I've only been to one show here that used a barrier. Usually you can stand right next to the stage, which is always better. Never really dealt with the staff...I don't order food or drinks when I go to shows, but I can say I've never seen security giving anyone a hard time, even when things get a little rowdy. So those details are all nice, but at the end of the day, none of it would matter if not for the consistently good booking choices. More...

Courteous staff, great food, great sound system, spacious outdoor area, bathrooms on both ends of the venue. Always booking incredible musical acts, often has non-profit tables present to educate and activate fans, this venue is all around A++.
