This was a great date night. We purchased tickets on Groupon. Parking cost more than the tickets. The room where the "duel" takes place is very small and intimate. Mark and Brian have two different types of humor but somehow it meshes very well creating a playful back-and-forth. The tricks were fun to watch. I don't like to try to figure out the tricks. Attended this 5pm Saturday show on a whim for something different to get into. What a blast!!! We live in dc so it was a pretty easy feat to get there. Check in was easy and the seating was casual and easy to choose your seat.The magicians were super entertaining, funny, and overall a very great time! THIS DYNAMIC DUO DOESN'T DISAPPOINT!   Brian Curry and Mark Phillips will have you laughing, clapping, astonished! The magic is mystifying and the comedy delightful and razor sharp.  They have tremendous chemistry and wit, and the magic is top notch.  You're sitting right there in front of them and can't see how it's done!  The audience participation is fantastic (and there's no safe seat in the house)! I love walking to the elevator after a show and listening to everyone's animated comments and someone will usually say "how'd they do that?"  We have seen The Magic Duel several times and just stopped by this past weekend for A Gentleman and Liar, and we'll be going back for both again!  No 2 shows are exactly the same.  It's a great venue to take out-of-town visitors for a one-of-a-kind experience, but also a blast for someone celebrating a birthday or just a lovely date night at the beautiful Mayflower Hotel, easily accessible by Metro. We hired Brian and Mark for our company's party offsite at La Vie, and some of our team even got to see them perform at the Mayflower prior to our event to see how the show would fit with our event. We all agreed they would be perfect and are so glad we hired them. Absolutely incredible tricks that genuinely had us wondering how the heck they did it! They also were incredibly flexible with the space that we had, and really added something extra special to our event. 10/10 would absolutely recommend them for any company or private event!!! It was a great birthday pre-dinner show! VIP seats were definitely worth the extra money because I'm short and so appreciate being in the first row. I wish I would've arrived earlier to get a couple of drinks before the show. The comedic duo know how to wow a crowd! Brain and Mark have you reeling in amusement from line one. Drinks from the upstairs cocktail bar were the perfect addition to the show. A magic show is not the first thing that comes to mind when the phrase live entertainment is mentioned, but these guys embody everything that's great about live entertainment and magic! If you haven't seen the Magic Duel -- you really should. Incredibly funny show with fabulous magic. How else could a show run for four years! Brian and Mark are amazing. Please forgive me, I'm so sorry I"m just now getting around to this review.  But do know that I've been talking about it long before and after this event.  I have seen the Magic Duel every year for the past 3 years. I haven't been disappointed yet.  I usually like to take my dates so that we can have a "magical experience!"  or shall i say, so that the magic can begin.  heheheheheei know, i shouldn't laugh at my own jokes, but i find them to be funny, even if you don't laugh.  Moreover, on that note about laughter, these two gentlemen are more than just Magicians, they are Comedians.  Not just any comedians, their comedy is cleverly funny and witty.  If you're not up to speed with current events especially politics, you'll miss most of the jokes because they come fast.  The magic that they pull off is on a Vegas level.  Why should you go see them?  Because of the following reasons:*   Wine bar -  Drinks with magic and comedy are the perfect mix.  Heck once you're tipsy, most anything can be funny.  Once you're tipsy, most any trick is amazing.  But this takes nothing away from their comedy and or magic.  The alcohol is an additive to the experience.*   Interactive-  You can't attend a magic show without audience participation.  It helps put the ease on everyone.*   Entertaining-  Just to reiterate, the "Magic Duel" is a great concept!  We Americans love competition.  Why not make it magical and funny?!  You'll be amazed with their tricks, wondering, "how?" or "no way?!"In conclusion:*   Innovative, intimate, simple yet clever, and thought provokingly funny.Pretty soon, they're going to get to know me, but I made a promise, "I will not share their secrets (because I don't know them)!  But if I did, I'm pretty sure, they'd make me disappear as their next trick. Outstanding experience from start to finish. First the booking experience and the help I received when finding a promo code after paying for the event was an excellent example of great customer service. Next the show itself was very entertaining. This was my first time going to a magic show, and I thought the magicians did a great job of mixing legitimate magic with comedy. It is really impressive to see magic done right in front of you and not have any idea how it was done. They also do a great job of involving the audience throughout the show. One word...WOW!!! This was amazing and SUPER funny! This was my 1st Magic show and went be my last. They were very interactive with the audience and great with reading the crowd. Added bonus... My wife is into magic and got tickets for the Magic Duel. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Brian and Mark were hilarious and their magic was spectacular! When we checked in, we got upgraded to VIP tickets. If people paid for the VIP tickets, I'm not sure they're necessarily worth it because the whole audience really does get involved. OMFG. We went to a show at the Mayflower Hotel in DC last weekend. It blew my FREAKING mind.  An amazing show!  There were card tricks, rope tricks, children's magic, and mind-reading. .. also a part with a goldfish I could have done without. Also this thing where they stuck other people's wedding rings together - STUCK TOGETHER.  The whole show was bananas.  Oh, also the part where they somehow knew what color envelope my husband would pick and that a woman was going on a vacation with her friend named Gail and Jesus H. It was a fun showing of parlor magic and I would highly recommend it as a source of entertainment for an evening out.I would advise though not to invest in VIP tickets as they are not worth the extra $15 each.  You get a space in the front row, but not all seats are exactly equal.  If you have a seat on the end, it's not really a VIP view. VIPs are NOT necessarily chosen as participants either.  On the 03/31 showing, no VIP was asked to participate.  Come early, all seat are on a first come first serve basis, and they give you 'Reserved Seat' place cards to use.Also, the door greeter and ticket taker was rude, non-verbal, and didn't seem to excited or even act like she wanted to be there.  They had swag to purchase.  For this show it was naughty fortune cookies at $10.  Of course, no change, cash only.  This is kinda odd for an established showing.  Everybody has a pay square for their cell phones.  They certainly would have sold more cookies. I had seen this show advertised and the reviews I read were all positive so decided to make a date night out of it with the hubby.  All I can say is that this show exceeded our very high expectations.  My husband and I can't stop talking about it..how did they do that?!?!?!  And the comedy, banter between the magicians, and audience involvement puts this show over the top.  Must see, like seriously you HAVE to see it!!! Great show, and a lot of fun. The magicians are clearly very talented, and have put a lot of work into their act. They had a good amount of audience participation, and the show really moved along. Really the only thing I could have done without were the politics jokes -- going out at night I want to get away from that kind of thing -- but they weren't too bad.
