I knew from our first time meeting that Brandi was the ideal person to photograph my wedding. Her priority is not just getting the best shot, but capturing the feelings and stories behind the faces. My fiancee randomly found Brandi on Craigslist. She was in the midst of building her portfolio so she offered us a free photoshoot. Our engagement shoot was our first real photoshoot together as a couple so of course we were awkward and nervous to start. But Brandi did a wonderful job at making my fiancee and I comfortable by encouraging us to just be ourselves and that remained the theme throughout our shoot. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
CONNECTION! It's all about encouraging my clients to connect with each other (via laughter, emotion, memories) and fostering a connection with me. This is why I love having a chat prior to any booking. I want to find out as much about the client as they want to find out about me. When I can see your personality, it becomes easier to photograph it.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I ask clients to tell me about their event or wedding, and what they would like to have captured. I wanna know all the details, because it tells me about the event and how they visualize it. When it comes to family, engagement, and maternity portraits, I want to know what about they envision. I brainstorm with my clients to choose locations that fit their personalities. I also want to know about the personalities of all the individuals who will be in the photos, including the little ones. If one of the subjects is shy...I wanna know, so that I can work extra hard to bring out their personality and capture it.
What do you love most about your job?
I love that I get to show people how beautiful they are. Often, I think people assume that you have to be perfect and look perfect to take an awesome picture. But the truth it, the beauty of humanity lives in between moments. The moment you look at your husband, you both know what each other is thinking, and you let out a vulnerable smile. The moment when your child decides that they are done with the photography session, and they want to run around. It's these moments that are beautiful. This is why I am a lifestyle photographer. I don't want my subjects to just stare at my camera. I want them to live in front of the camera.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always been an entrepreneur and I have loved taking photos since elementary school.

I am a storyteller that photographs the beauty of human connection. When clients look at the photos that I take, I want them to not only see themselves...I want them to see how beautiful they are, and how blown away beautiful their relationships and families are.
