Why is this place called BIG K; Steve is a former BSU offensive lineman so he appreciates generous portion size if you get what I'm saying! Great food, great pricing, great service that will keep you coming back for more. They will provide food for your Boise State game parties, weddings, birthdays and I can't wait for Halloween-- what's Halloween without pulled pork, ribs and Tri-Tip?! Passed by this one day and put it on the list. Read an article in the Statesman that gave an overview and decided we needed to go. . It did not disappoint! Cost is $15.85 per person. IT’S WORTH IT if you’re a bbq fan. Cornbread casserole alone is worth the visit. Staff is friendly and helpful and restaurant is cozy and clean! This place looks a little rough from the outside but the inside is clean, bright, and inviting like a home kitchen table. The food is delicious, my favorites are the meatballs, cornbread, and tender melt-in-your-mouth pork ribs . Nice selection of barbecue sauces, both house made and MFT. They have an all you can eat lunch buffet Wednesday through Friday with ribs, smoked chicken, smoked sausages, pulled pork, barbeque medley, smoked chicken, and bourbon meatballs. If it's one thing Boise needs it's more bbq joints that can do it right and Big K is well on their way. I came here seeking a catering event and wanted to try out all they had to offer before ordering for 100 people. ..sadly it didn't work out due to work politics but I came out with the only thing better than bbq....knowledge...okay bbq is better. Anyway, they offer an all you can eat bbq buffet on the weekdays...I mean come on! Its legitamet all you can eat with full menu items and affordable. That's as solid as a 5-4-3 double play in my book. The sides are really good and I enjoyed the variety to keep the palette fresh. I am an avid bbq connoissuer and been down to Texas, Oklahoma, and So Cal eating at some of the best. That said I'm a tuff guy to win over with bbq....all the meats were very tender and cooked wonderfully but I was left wanting much more out of the rub/flavor. I think they do this to have the customer use their sauce liberally, and their sauce was good but the pulled pork and ribs needed more in the flavor department. The smoked sausage was right on point though. Where they shine is the wonderfully nice people they are and the place has a truly authentic bbq feel to it  much like the whole in the wall texas/Oklahoma joints I have been to and loved. Like I said, Big K is on their way to being good bbq. For this refined bbq palette it fell short in areas but I WILL be back because I believe in this place...and you should too! Big K BBQ catered our sons wedding this past weekend. The food was a big hit. We had pulled pork, chicken, green salad, potato salad, rolls and the (very popular) cornbread casserole. I called them about 6 months ago and made arrangements. I worked with Jennifer. They had a tasting in February which was wonderful! They were extremely reasonable and everything we needed was provided from plates, utensils and napkins. They served about 100 guests. They were set up and ready to serve in 10 minutes. First time, warm welcome, seat-yourself kind of place. All-you-can-eat buffet Wed-Fri, 11am till sold out, comes with a drink (loved their real southern sweettea! !), $14.95! I had a nibble of everything, even stuff I "don't like". Here's how it shook out: coleslaw-just enough sauce, nice and crunchy, with a touch of sweetness (loved it); potato salad-potatoes a touch firm, sauce a little loose, but not bad (I'll skip it next time); cornbread casserole-baked just right, cheese on top, pieces of corn, and sweet (I don't like cornbread and loved this, no added sugar-it was naturally sweet); baked beans-multi kind of beans, just bbq-y enough (I HATE baked beans, these were delicious); chunky smashed taters-really good; mac&cheese-i dont like mac and cheese, I would go back for seconds, creamy, homemade goodness; smoked sausage-sliced bite size on the diagonal, nice smoky flavor, easy on the sauce, a definite yes; Burbon meatballs-meh, I can crockpot these at home, good, not great; medley bbq pulled meats-the nibble I had was flavorful but dry and chewy; unsauced pork-good, add any of the sauces they have for your own flavor; pork ribs-fall off bone, smokey but a little underseasoned; smoked chicken legs-good smoky flavor but that's all, very under seasoned (I'll skip these next time). Overall good BBQ and they do dinner 3-8 Wed-Fri, 3-11 Sat, AND they cater. More...

The Big K Bbq recently opened its dining room after closing its lunch counter in fall 2017. They now offer a lunch buffet from 11 a. m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.For $14.95, customers can choose between 15 items and a drink. There's pork ribs, pulled pork, bourbon meatballs, smoked chicken legs, sausages and many more choices, including potato salad, coleslaw, barbecue beans and macaroni and cheese. A cornbread casserole, from a family recipe, could be a meal in itself. It's really good.The ribs are really good, smoky and tender. As in true barbecue style, they're served plain, without sauce. It's up to diners to decide what kind of sauce they want and how much. There's a sweet sauce and a spicy one, Carolina mustard and a couple of bottled sauces from local company My FamilyTradition. Service was friendly despite them getting busy soon after they opened on a Wednesday. They also serve pub food from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. until the food runs out on Saturday (usually between 3 and 4 p.m.).I'm glad to see them reopen their restaurant to go with their custom smoking offerings and catering menu.
