Q&As

Most writers have a great story to tell or worthwhile ideas to share with the world. I love facilitating the process of getting those ideas into the written word. Many don't realize or believe that even seasoned writers wrestle with the writing process and allow temporary obstacles to frustrate their writing experience. It is my joy to help writers work through those roadblocks and craft moving stories or effective arguments.

I offer more than merely intuition about the written word, which I developed from reading constantly and broadly. The expertise I offer you is rooted in professional training and continued professional development to keep pace with the evolving publishing industry. My credentials include a professional certificate in editing from UC Berkeley and a BA in philosophy (minor in astronomy) from the University of Maryland. I also maintain active membership in editorial organizations.

Editing is not only about correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation, otherwise computer programs can easily replace editors in the publishing house. While fixing mechanical issues is an integral part of editing, the editing process also involves making revisions to make the writing as effective, clear, and concise as possible without losing the writer's unique voice.

That's why I approach all writing projects with analytical thinking (to identify any gaps in logic or narrative), attention to detail (to catch the misplaced commas or vague pronoun antecedents), and an understanding of the client's editorial needs (from proofreading to developmental editing).
