John is an outstanding dog trainer and dog behavior specialist. My two Pomeranians who are brothers and have never been separated started aggressively fighting after almost being together for five years! I was terrified and bitten all over from breaking up the fights. After a day of this I panicked and found John online. He came to immediate rescue later that day after we talked. Amazing!! Yesterday was my dog's last day of training and she has done so well! John spent time with my dog, Esmeralda, and assured her training was tailored to fit her personality and way of learning. Before John started working with her, Esmeralda was queen of the house and had no respect for authority, but now she has completely transformed.
Esmeralda gets overly excited when she sees another dog, especially my upstairs neighbor's, but since John's training (from last night!) she can be near that dog without lunging, ripping my arm off, barking, or whining.
If you're looking for a good dog trainer - look no further! I cannot thank John enough for helping me gain control over my pup and creating the dicipline she needs and wants. More...

Hands down best trainer around! John's observation of how I interacted with my 10lb poodle mix was eye opening; when I first opened the door at the 1st session, he gave me gentle feedback and suggestions to curb his aggressive behavior. It was no wonder why Marley was barking like a wild dog; I wasn't helping things and I didn't even know.
Being a first time dog owner I knew needed help, especially after Marley was attacked on a walk. I learned a lot about how a k-9 thinks, acts and reacts than I originally thought I would.
John really worked patiently with both of us and gave me the tools & homework that will gradually get Marley where he needs to be; part of my pack-not the pack leader.

Marley had shown improvement within the first week-so much so that my neighbors commented on his progress! Yay!
I recommend Balanced Pooches to anyone looking to help their dog become the best dog s/he can be.
Best part-John keeps communication open even after the sessions are over. I can still ask questions if needed; fantastic!!

John is a great businessman who really loves his business! That shows without question.

Thanks for helping me get my Marley back to trusting me after the scary dog attack in April. Now on walks, he's laid back and let's me be the look out. He can show off his Poodle Prance, to quote his name sake: Marley doesn't "worry about about a thing" when out and about. It's been a fun time recreating our Leader/dog relationship.

I cannot express how much John has helped me and my dog, Beau! Before meeting John, Beau was a leash puller, barked at other dogs passing by, was super anxious and I never felt like I had the control over him that I really wanted. John was great and patient with my boyfriend, myself and our standard poodle puppy! The first visit, Mr Lahey wanted nothing to do with John or his chicken treats. John remarked how he never encountered this before. By the third visit, Mr. Lahey was giving John kisses and responding well to most commands. So pleased with the turn around in his behavior using the training techniques we were taught. As with any animal you bring into a home, it's about building that bond, trust, being consistent, giving positive feedback and correction when needed. Tyson our dachshund is a very sweet but stubborn rescue who really needed some help with barking, separation anxiety and general bad behaviour. We were so lucky to find John. His patience and straightforward approach has made an unbelievable difference to Tyson. The homework was so well explained to my husband that I managed to pick up the training without being at two of three sessions. I noticed a huge difference in Tyson after a week and it keeps getting better. I am now no longer afraid to take Tyson for walks during daylight, he sits and waits to be told when he can eat or when he can greet you, it's like owning a different dog. John was very knowledgeable and was able to tailor his program to my dog. We have done group training in the past and Bella (my dog) was not receptive and definitely needed a more hands-on approach. While our first trainer was very knowledgeable it was more of a cookie cutter program. John saw the problems in the home and was able to address them and make daily life easier. Bella was an avid counter surfer and after just our first session it was nearly eliminated. I strongly recommend John to everyone. Lastly, you can't beat the value that you get for the price! Can't say enough good things about John. He's clearly very knowledgeable; he keeps it simple, yet effective; he's flexible and willing to work with your schedule; and he comes to your home. My dog was by no means a terror, but we were new to each other, and there were definitely things we needed to work on. Remy's now happier, calmer, and all around better behaved thanks to John. We just completed our training with John for our approx 4 year old White Shepherd / Border Collie rescue dog Darwin. Darwin was a stray from Fort Worth Texas. We don't know his history, but he has some scars on his neck and was exhibiting some behaviors that indicated he might have been in some tough situations before we adopted him. Darwin is exceptionally smart, loving and playful, but we were having trouble controlling him in certain situations. For example when delivery trucks drove past our house he would go into guarding / chasing mode barking, running through the house and crashing into things and in other situations he would be a bit on edge and unpredictable. John taught us many valuable training exercises to practice with Darwin with the main objective of teaching him that we were in control and the alphas in the family, which in turn would allow Darwin to relax and understand that we weren't going to let anything bad happen to him so he could let down his guard. We have been working on training with Darwin for almost 3 weeks and have seen a big difference already. We plan to continue to work with Darwin in order get him to behave how we want in all situations. But, John has given us all the tools, instruction and confidence to get there. He is very patient with the training process and with interruptions during the training session (such as our toddler running around the house etc.). John is really good at explaining each training exercise and the reasoning behind each exercise. He was right on time for each sessions and he writes out detailed instructions for your "homework" that should be practiced between sessions. Overall the entire process was really gratifying, interesting and fun. I think the most important lesson I learned from John is once you have the confidence to control and lead your dog, your dog will understand and feel that too and be able to relax and behave. We're looking forward to continuing to work with Darwin so we can help him become the best dog he can be. Thank you John for helping us help Darwin! More...

John is an excellent dog trainer. He really had a huge impact on our two dogs, Juno and Comet. He does a very good job explaining why he used certain techniques with the dogs and then clearly provides instructions on how to practice with the dogs in between and after the three sessions, We can't recommend him strongly enough.

We have two German Shorthaired Pointers. The 9 month old Piper is very sweet but reluctant to listen. After just one visit and instructions for training she became the model of obedience. And with that an even sweeter and happier dog. 3 visits later she has evolved into an amazing part of our family. She listens and just wants to please and give love now.
