This place is in one of our dining out rotations. My go to is the beef schwarma and restaurant made yogurt soup dish with veggies - it's a perfect combination that isn't too heavy and is super delicious. Also, when you go, dont SLEEP ON THE FRENCH FRIES. Their fries are probably on the top 10 list of fries I've ever tasted as they toss them in parsley and serve them with a garlic sauce that may just be the nectar of the garlic Goddess herself. Took a risk and tried Azar's for the first time today and it did not disappoint! Ordered the Chicken Tawook and Shawarma (lamb) platters with the basmati rice and both dishes were light, flavorful, and beyond satisfying. We love this place!!! Very family and large group friendly, the menu has something for everyone! This particular visit I enjoyed the lunch combo of peasant salad and chicken tawook wrap. I have been here before and the one in Norfolk. It has been a while so I forgot how good the food is. I got the chicken kabob and it was great. I tried the falafel, and I will admit I have had better but overall the food was good. Good portions so although it looks a little pricey you get plenty and will probably need a doggy bag. We were searching for a good Greek dinner and we didn't find that here.... We found a FANTASTIC Greek dinner! The spanikopita, gyros, schwarma platter and My big fat Greek burger were all perfect! Second visit first review. Ended up here because Baladis is closed on Sundays. I had the chicken kebob platter with a spinach salad and basmati rice. I thought the hummus and rice were ok, my salad was a generous portion and the chicken amd veggie skewers were good. His salmon skewer was good. Took home a few desserts...my pistachio baklava was really buttery but the lemonberry cake was phenomenal.Overall it's nice. I qualify all of my food/restaurant reviews by stating that I spent nearly 3 decades in nearly all aspects of the food service business, I have opened and owned my own small establishments and managed and trained for national chains.  Lunch today at Azar's was exceptional!!  The excellent service started when a gentleman behind the counter greeted us and said "two"...sit anywhere you like.  We were greeted quickly by our server who took our beverage order and returned for our lunch order.  My wife had the Chicken Tawook wrap which was awesome, I had a classic Gyro which (aside from missing onions) was good to very good.  We had a side of fries which were hot as hades and delicious.  We both enjoyed the "garlic and egg white whip" (garlic mayo with a twist and fancy name).  The food was hot and very quick, the place was clean (including the bathrooms) and overall we had a truly great experience.  Also, I have had their grape leaves before and they are as good as any i've ever had.  They also have a large table in the back which I assume is to accommodate larger parties somewhat separated from the rest of the dining room so I will check "Good for groups".  There was no annoying millennial music playing and I can't speak to the kids menu. I've gone to Azar's on and off for several years but only recently started to love it for its lunches - and in particular its combo lunch special. I will admit it - I like to eat. A lot. And I always appreciate when my plate is brimming with food that tastes amazing and is not too expensive. Azar's is always DELICIOUS and the prices are not too bad, but a bit more than other local establishments for the size of the food served. Sometimes I just want more. That said - I have found the perfect order - their lunch combo of a wrap and a cup of soup.The eggplant wrap in particular is my favorite and it comes with a small side of hummus and some pita and I usually order the lentil soup or pay a dollar more for their tomato soup. It is perfect - just enough food to fill me but not too much that I feel gross. And when you check-in it is 10% off your order.Throw in some outside seating and a nice afternoon breeze and I think I have found a perfect afternoon lunch spot for those of us who work in Hilltop and like to eat out during our lunch breaks. GOOD GOOD spot! A little pricey, but the food is just bursting with flavor and the portions are great. We always get killer service here and rarely have we ever had to wait for a table. Azars is one of our staples. Their Shawarma and tawook wraps are super yummy and have great flavor. I am a shawarma connoisseur and have very high standards and azars definitely meets them. had the tuna sandwich on a "boule" they call it, with garlic dressing, fries and baba ganoug was amazing. Also had a bowl of lentils soup, could have been better but was ok, service was also ok, food came out fast thats a plus, but the waiter was absent at the end, we had to go pay at the cashier, Overall 4 star but nothing was that bad so really 5 stars

We were looking for middle eastern food while being in Virginia Beach and I found Azar's through Yelp. We hesitated to try it since the rating was not great however previously we have tried the one across the street with almost perfect rating and we hated it. So we gave it a try and we loved it, the wraps were very good! The other comment with the falafel review scared us but for me the fried falafel wrap was so good, I also tried the chicken and beef wraps both were very good. Hidden gem if you like Mediterranean food.  Nice little cafe setting and store.Definitely will not find this place if just driving along the main roads. The store has a huge variety of Mediterranean items, some freshly made at the store.The food is very authentic, probably because the ones in the kitchen who make it are from that area.Sit yourself seating and order taken right away.  Ordered a sampler type dish to taste a little bit of alot of things.  Everything was delicious and finished it off with baklava.Definitely my spot to go to when I have a Mediterranean food itch! Came in today for Lunch, and made use of a Yelp $5.00 for $10.00 deal.  I went for the Original Gyro, and my wife had the Beef Shawarma with a Salad combination.  I would say the Gyro was more "modern" than "traditional" preparation, I.E.  Instead of a big heaping amount of meat in there, it was prepared more like a wrap with less meat.  A little smaller than a big honkin' traditional gyro, but at the same time, allows you to savor the taste of it, without being in a greasy-meat induced 'food coma' afterwards!   The wait staff was excellent.  From the host, to the servers, all were very friendly and positive.  Also, the atmosphere of the restaurant is modern and very clean.  Near the entry way is a bar, and also a display cabinet full of appetizing desserts.  For the warmer seasons, there is an outdoor seating area as well, in true Mediterranean restaurant style.I usually do not order desserts at restaurants, but all the items in the food case were too enticing.  Me and the wife fought over eating a piece of Chocolate Cake.  (She won that battle...).    It was just as rich and delicious as it looks.  Very good.  All in all, I'd say grab you a Yelp $5 for $10 deal (Or also, there is currently a Yelp offer for 10% off entire meal that popped up on my phone when I checked in).   I recommend and I will be back. :-) More...

Fabulous place! The food is excellent. They have many traditional Mediterranean dishes.
