About

Therapist in Santa Monica

I believe that every individual has an inner world that’s often at odds with the external one they live in. In my decades of work with a wide spectrum of patients from all walks of life, I’ve discovered that body-oriented therapy is the most effective treatment available today for people who seek to bring their inner world and external world into harmony.

I went to see Dr. Brandt because I wanted a specialist in the field of "anger"  in relationships.  i was going through a divorce and I really wanted to deal with all of what did not work about the relationship, but most important to look at the divorce as an opportunity to finally understand and dismantle what I knew to be "patterns" in my relationships.  I wanted someone who knew the difference between being upset and the cycle of anger and how to break out of it.She was wonderful.  She listens, gives very thoughtful insights, works at your pace and will say exactly what she sees.  I deeply appreciated her candor, experience, empathy and clear explanations of what she saw in my life.  I had attempted to see a number of therapists over the last 20 years and never lasted past the 2nd session, only because of their sluggish and muddy approach.  What works for me is to walk out of a session with real value, (not eventually) but each session more valuable than the next.Dr. Brandt delivered on that.  I continue (several years since seeing her) to recommend her and share from the work she did with me.  She was invaluable.  ( I don't know if she still does this but what also was great was that she did phone sessions which supported my schedule) More...

Q&As

My approach goes beyond straightforward talk therapy. I believe the storyteller is sometimes more interesting than the story.

My approach goes beyond straightforward talk therapy because I believe the storyteller is sometimes more interesting than the story. Instead of just going over and over the story of your life and never delving deeper, we’ll track the body to see what feelings, impulses, memories, and images exist under the words.

Frankly my passion for therapy comes right out of my childhood. I felt like a hostage in my family. I was an only child and truly hostage to my parents’ needs and feelings, unable to express myself without the fear of abandonment and /or rejection. So I wanted to learn how to heal and how to deal with my complex emotions. I found the answers through therapy.

To my work as a therapist I bring not only my decades of clinical practice, but also my own experience confronting and surviving personal challenges. I am a recognized expert in treating a full range of emotional issues including anger, trauma, anxiety, aging, relationships, work-life balance, workplace, and women’s issues.
