I'd never worked with a documentary style photographer before, but Ana Elena put us at ease from the moment she arrived at our home. Rather than having us pose and smile, she simply became our shadow for the day, following us from task to task, from playing in the playroom to running around the park after our toddler. Some of my favorite moments from the shoot weren't even big important events, or even featuring all three of us; they were the little moments. Hands touching while feeding a meal to my child, pausing to laugh while cooking dinner, our toddler crawling all over us on the floor. These are the things I want to remember, and no other photographer has managed to capture them before. What great photos to have! I will definitely keep Ana Elena in mind for future and would highly recommend her to capture your own simple everyday family memories. More...

We had a blast with ANa doing a day in the life family photo shoot at our house. I normally feel awkward doing photo shoots, but her style is different--less formal and posed, and more candid and informal. She made us all feel at ease and very comfortable throughout the shoot. We went about our daily routines while she snapped pictures, capturing all the little candid moments with our 5 month old son. After, for our photo reveal, ANa came over and showed us a slideshow she put together, telling a story of our morning. We loved the style of her photos and how she told a story with the pictures. We also really enjoyed getting to know and work with ANa. She is so personable, understanding and friendly and was so easy to talk to! We were a little apprehensive about how the session would work in our home but ANa Elena put us all (including baby!) at ease immediately. The images that she captured of our day to day family moments were beautiful and we also really enjoyed the experience. It's hard to feel comfortable when you're 28+ weeks pregnant, it's summertime, and there's a camera pointed at you. Â This is why I never wanted to do a "traditional" maternity shoot (no offense to flower crowns and belly-gaping gowns). Â Ana's candid style was much more on par with what I was looking for, and I was so incredibly happy with the outcome! Â She made my husband and I feel completely at ease - no forced smiles or awkward gazing in to each other's eyes. Â She snapped photos and kept us chatting in a way that was completely natural. ANa Elena is an amazing artist and photographer. Her documentary style captured our family and perfectly memorialized our life in DC before we moved to another city. She spent an entire day with us and we didn't even notice when she was taking pictures. When I met Ana Elena and learned she shoots documentary style photography I knew I had to see what she could do with my growing family. Â Because my tiny apartment has become even more cramped with the addition of two kids I never thought that I would be able to have a photographer come and take beautiful pictures in my home, but Ana Elena worked some sort of magic to give me exactly that!Ana Elena is friendly and relaxed while still being professional. Â She was easy to communicate with and advised me on how to get ready for the shoot, including how to prepare my toddler for her visit. Â She was realistic in her estimate of how much time she would need on the day of the shoot. Â She arrived on time, captured some amazing photos in a manner that seemed effortless, and delivered the pictures in a timely manner. Â Life with two kids under two years old is wild and lovely and goes by so freaking fast. Â I enjoy looking at these pictures now, and imagine they will become even more precious as time passes.
