If you are on the fence about boarding, I highly recommend! We've had our baby (mini golden doodle) for almost three years. She's literally the light in our lives. We are the obsessed helicopter pawrents. The longest we've ever left her was daycare at Alii which she loves! It finally came time where we had to leave for three days and could not take her with us. We had so much anxiety and many questions for Alii. They were so patient and answered all of our questions/concerns. I love the fact there's a camera in her suite (yes it's a suite not a crate!) for us to check up on her and during the day she gets to play with her furry fwens. She also got walked three times a day outside. I am definitely taking more future trips knowing my baby will be safe and happy at Alii More...

We just got a new puppy and needed somewhere to establish coverage for his shots and future visits. Ali'i Animal Hospital was the only place who got back so quickly and had an opening the following weekend. It's still curbside which i totally understand because of COVID but i was extremely anxious about it since we found out our puppy had intestinal worms, which only made the situation scarier. My boyfriend tried to assure me it would be okay but i wasn't having it and nearly in tears. The receptionist and technicians were very helpful and so kind to us, walking us through everything we needed to know. however it was Dr. Takiguchi who really blew me away with her call and running me through every single thing that i needed to know going in with this. she knew i was worried and anxious but she got me calm and we even shared a few laughs on the call. while i didn't get to meet her face to face because of covid i'm very happy with the service! We'll be coming in a few weeks to get our other dogs transferred to Alii because this is forever the only vet for us. thank you! More...

I should have written this months ago when I originally took my dog in. I just have to say that from the reviews and seeing what I saw I would HIGHLY recommend finding a different location. When we first walked up a large dog came limping out to its owner (was in the supposed "spa" aka "doggie day care." The dog owner said something like, "my dog didn't have a limp when I dropped him off"....no apology just, "oh, he had an accident and fell". Super rude. No aloha. I don't know what that owner ended up doing. I dropped my dog off for a simple rabies vaccination. They doctor called me telling me he needed his ears cleaned for $80 and then ear wax needed to be tested for another $80. When we took him home his ears weren't even cleaned! My partner ended up cleaning them! Then, they wanted to run more tests on him during the vaxx visit. After a $380 bill my partner was pissed. We got a slight discount when we said "Ugh, I don't think so," but they were so rude. I couldn't believe the lack of care. Just $$ hungry vet and team with no aloha. Buyer beware. Especially with your fur babies. More...

Our dog has ongoing skin issues and I truly felt like Dr. Takiguchi got to the bottom of it. We've been to a couple of vets but got minimal relief. Dr Takiguchi got us on a regimen that's really looking good right now. They were able to see us the same day and found the price to be ok- vets are always expensive to that's understandable. They even clipped our dogs nails. Overall really like this place and highly recommend! More...

We were moving off island with our dog and we needed to get him his required paperwork for him to fly, I scheduled this appointment in advanced and one month before our move Dr. Pressler had told us that our pit bull needed surgery for "Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome" -- moving with a big dog is already so stressful, so when she told us that I was more anxious/nervous about everything. After they suggested to get the surgery, they sent me an estimate cost and that was about it. A few days later I had called Dr. Pressler back and told her all my concerns about how I don't feel comfortable about doing a surgery so close before his flight, and how if he does really need this surgery then I would like a set up a real plan so he has time to recover before a flight. On that same call she had said that it seemed as if 'we didn't care about our dogs safety' because we questioned that he really needed it. I asked if any of the other vets who have seen him (we've only gone to Ali'i for his vets visits since 2020) ever suggested he has this Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome and she re-read some notes and no one ever had that suspicion for him. I also had suggested maybe his temperature was high because we waited for 30-40 minutes in the parking lot with not too much shade, and that I usually exercise my dog for hours every day after work when it's hot out and he never had issues breathing and she had told me to check him myself because maybe I am over heating him, she even said go to the store, buy a oral kids thermometer and stick it up his butt, and that it should be easy because his butt hole is big lol. I don't know why but her whole vibe was off for me, and I'm already anxious about flying my dog and she was making me feel worst. so I explain that to her some more, how i'm calling to just get some comfort and CLEAR guidance on what my dog needs, and then she said how she's an emergency vet and in her professional opinion my dog absolutely 100% needed this surgery, and that she would even feel MORE comfortable if he did the surgery the day of his flight rather than not do it at all -- that he would be so RESTED because he would finally be able to breathe, that he probably has never in his life rested due to his condition.... but the biggest thing she said that really bothered me was that she has seen a lot of bad things happen to dogs in her field (which I don't doubt) and she said that she would hate for my dog to be the lesson that we learn for not taking her diagnosis seriously. Ans my anxiety went through the roof, like my dog is about to die of I put him on this flight, so if i have to pay $5-$5.5K (that was the estimate they sent me for this) then i'm going to get a second opinion, and after the way she was speaking to me I didn't want another opinion at the same vets office. I went over to Kaka'ako Pet Hospital and they were amazing to me, they talked to me about everything i needed to help me fly, and what's required, and what sedatives would be best to use and what's not best to use (which was very helpful!) they double and triple checked my dogs nose to see if he really needs this surgery and they told me that they don't see a reason why my pitbull would ever need this -- if i were in Hawaii still i would definitely go back to them. I feel like Ali'i was just trying to get more money out of us since we were leaving, and we were put in a situation that made me super vulnerable and susceptible to just going through with it because of my tight timeline and anxiety I already had. Also it took Ali'i almost over a week to forward over my dogs health records to the new vet, they sent it the morning of, and it was just his vax records not the health records with any info they were requesting. But I am happy to say he has arrived safely and healthily, and I don't think I'll fly my dog anymore because I was more stressed about this whole procedure than my dog was lol. More...

Sounds fine to me. But since I'm not familiar with this business I asked if I could see their facilities before making an appointment.I was politely told due to Covid they didn't allow people to visit their facilities. It's was to keep their staff safe, so she gave me a link to a virtual tour..I totally get it however, at the same time I have to keep my fur baby safe, I explained to them this will be like dropping off my child at a babysitter that I've never met.So the concierge told me she appreciated my concerns however they would not be a good fit for what I'm looking for.Well, what I'm looking for is a well-maintained safe space for my fur baby to be happy and content for five days in July and if requesting to see their facility beforehand was the wrong question to askI'm guilty charge! I feel compelled to write a review because I have entrusted my pet's care with Alii Animal Hospital for as long as we've owned our fur baby. We've been thrilled with the friendly staff and have thoroughly enjoyed the daycare services. It wasn't until we needed to renew our animal's fecal test on file that there was a lapse in service. It turned out that our dog unfortunately tested positive for worms and needed to complete a round of medications. After completing the medication, we did not know that we needed to call back to schedule a follow-up fecal test. It was not made clear that we needed to call, we thought we would hear back from Alii for next steps. Upon trying to obtain our medical records and negative fecal test for another daycare facility, we found out that our dog was still positive for worms. We thought that after our first round of treatment our dog had been cured but did he have worms for the last 1+ month? I can't help to wonder if the failed mis-communication was due to the many different staff members? Although everyone is extremely kind and friendly, we've been greeted by someone different almost every visit. Our dog has had worms for the last 1.5+ months and we cannot utilize daycare facilities for another six weeks; I'm sure this situation is not anyone's fault but it has definitely caused strain on scheduling conflicts that could have been remedied weeks earlier. If you read this, know that Alii will provide great care... you just need to follow-up on your own so your own case doesn't slip through the cracks and your sweet fur baby will receive proper immediate care. I just moved my dog 1.5 year-old Labrador from CA to HI and after the first week of swimming in the ocean and taking in all the flora & fauna, he started developing tiny bumps that turned into welts. At first, I saw 1-2 scabby areas but chalked it up to possible tick bites as I know how those things thrive in hot and humid climates.. Then, tiny little firm bumps started appearing around his neck and dorsal area, above his shoulder blades. He didn't appear to be itching or scratching but this prompted me to find a good veterinarian ASAP. I typed in my zip code and Ali'i Hospital & Resort was one of the first to appear. I read through all the positive reviews which definitely outnumbered the bad and decided to give them a call. The staff was very friendly and tried to squeeze me in as soon as possible. The did process a $31 booking fee to hold the appointment which would be applied towards the exam fee itself. We ended up calling them back to see if they could squeeze us in sooner for an urgent care visit which they managed to work out for an additional $31, bringing the total for an emergency pet visit to $62. Because of COVID restrictions right now, we aren't able to go into the clinic with our pets. Rather, you drive or walk-up to your appointment, then call the clinic upon arrival for someone to meet you outside and receive your pet. The nurse who received my dog, Luke, outside was so genuinely receptive and took all the info about my dog's condition down accordingly. The veterinarian who ended up seeing Luke was Dr. Yasunaga. Even though I did not get to see her in person and only spoke with her over the phone, I could tell that she is a sweet, good-natured, and caring person. She was kind enough to call me with an update as well as to go over procedures and treatment plans. Furthermore, she was considerate and provided me with estimated costs along the way. After all was said and done, Luke was diagnosed with an unusual case of Bacterial folliculitis due to hotspots and he was prescribed steroids and antibiotics(which was the bulk of the cost for the meds). They also sent us home with one free dose of NexGard for Luke to try out. Out-the-door, we paid about $300 total which, I believe, is pretty fair considering they squeezed him in last-minute and appeared to provide him with the best care available on OahuWe've got Luke started on his prescribed meds and are keeping an eye on his progress but are pretty confident he will be well on his way to recovery. I am writing this review because I was clearly told by Dr. Pressler, Medical Director, that if I wrote a negative review on Yelp about their boarding services, that it would be a conflict for Ali'i to continue to see our dog at their hospital. My husband and I have explained that we we had no issues with the hospital side of their business, but are extremely unsettled about the care our dog received during his stay at their "resort". We did not ask for any money back, nor did they offer. Our only request was that they are clear with pet parents in the future, so that parents can make an informed decision prior to boarding their dogs. Our boarding experience was heartbreaking. When we requested the "daily patient care sheet" we saw that the majority of our dog's stay, he was last taken out at 6pm. We came to find out that there is no one in the facility from 9pm to 6am. Our dog was forced to defecate in his "suite". Leaving our dog alone for 12 hours without being taken out is not something we would have ever signed up for, and not what we expected from Ali'i who advertises "You can have peace of mind that your fur baby is staying at Honolulu's best pet facility". We were told that Matt, Resort Director, would reach out to us, but after 2 weeks of not hearing from him, we reached out again only to receive a call from Dr. Pressler. She said she was calling to "explain her perspective" which included details of how difficult her job is, that she didn't get to go away for the holidays and we did, how understaffed they are, and that "this conversation is not a big deal to me, I deal with much more upset people than you every day". Never once during the conversation did she offer an apology. My husband and I were both shocked by the conversation, the excuses and defensiveness. When I explained that in our opinion it is unacceptable to leave a dog for 12 hours without taking them out, we just wish we would have known, she said "our records must not be accurate". Needless to say, we have found another vet. More...

We booked a double suite for almost a month, because nothing is too good for our baby. He seemed to have fun, but when we picked him up, he had a very noticeable eye infection. I ended up taking him back for to have his eye cared for. They took absolutely no responsibility for the eye infection. The fact that he caught it there was of no consequence to them. I spoke to three different people and the fact that they had glib excuses at hand said to me that this was not the first time this had happened. It was likened to a child getting sick at school, or a dog park. (We do not take our dog to dog parks for that very reason.) Finally it was pointed out that we had signed a liability waiver. I asked to speak with someone who could actually address the problem, but that did not happen. So, after shelling out over $2000 for the boarding, we had to pay almost $200 more for the eye infection treatment. Mr. Look Yau Mo/ Buttfurs had blood in his poop for almost a week. Some of it was solid but some was also diarrhea. I was super worried and was searching for last minute urgent care appointments from different vets. My regular vet did not have openings until the next week. I called Ali'i Animal Hospital and Resort. They told me they could try to fit me into the schedule that day but it would be more expensive due to the emergency/ urgent nature of the appointment. That was fair. It was $62, double the normal exam fee. I took Buttfurs, called them when I got to Ali'i and they took him in for the exam. I was told the wait may be long. While I waited, I ran some errands and got lunch nearby. Some time had passed, so I decided to make my way back to Ali'l. I should have called first. When I got back to Ali'i, I asked for an update and was told that Buttfurs was being seen now. There were a few other pet parents that came to pick up their pets. I was standing off to the right side of the entrance. The resort director, Matt Malta saw me and checked to see if I've been helped. I told him yes and that I was waiting on my cat. He asked if I wanted a chair to sit on while I waited or if I wanted water. I said yes to the chair. He brought over one. Thank you Matt! A few of the vet assistants saw me waiting when they helped other pet owners and checked up on me as well. Excellent customer service! Dr. Judy Yasunaga called me to let me know what she found after examining Mr. Buttfurs. She asked if I was waiting outside, I said yes. So she personally came out to explain everything to me. She was very kind, knowledgeable and patient. I had a lot of questions and was super worried about Buttfurs. She answered all of them expertly! :) I had recently adopted a kitten who's foster kitten-mates were diagnosed with Giardiasis and Coccidiosis (parasites). So I was worried Buttfurs may have it too. I also brought in a poop/fecal sample to be tested for any parasites. Ali'i offers cat fecal sample analysis through outside testing. (IDEXX Fecal Dx Antigen Tests) I was told I'd get the results in 1 to 2 days. She prescribed him some antibiotics and a sedative for the next time I take him to the vet. Buttfurs tends to get very anxious and becomes combative. She also recommended a bland diet for the time being and different ways to mix in the medicines with his food. He has gotten more rotund which I've been slightly worried about too. I was worried about megacolon or anything internally so she suggested that we could do a more thorough examination after sedation and imaging but it would be a bit costly. I was able to get a quote of the cost for that procedure. I'm happy that she provided me with information and explored different treatment options with me. Not once did I feel pressured into choosing one or the other. She is a very genuine and caring veterinarian. Thank you Dr. Yasunaga! When I got home Mr. Buttfurs was very angry with me, lol. I tried to give him the bland food with the medicine mixed in and he would not eat it. He may have sniffed it out. I called Ali'i for suggestions on how to feed it to him. The receptionist checked with vet assistants and gave me some pointers. Thank you to all the staff members for their helpful suggestions! Sadly, Mr. Buttfurs also didn't fall for anything I tried. So I put the medicine directly into a syringe and squeezed that into his mouth. He was very very angry with me... Was not having it at all. Hissing, snarling, clawing. Lol. I wasted a lot of medicine and food attempting all this. I called Ali'i again, they let me know that their vet techs could give him the medication if I brought him in for a charge. I tried my best with the DIY syringe method. Earned a lot of back leg bunny kicking war scars from this ordeal... Lol. Almost a week after I still had not heard back with the fecal testing results so I emailed Ali'i at pets@aliianimal.com and got a response within a few days from Nadia. The results showed as negative for hookworm, roundworm, whipworm, ova (eggs) and parasites. Which was great news. Though not sure what the exact cause of his bloody poops were. With some time and a different diet Mr. Buttfurs got better. I had a hard time trying to give him the antibiotic medication and really appreciated all the helpful suggestions from staff members about how to give him the meds. I also really thank this clinic for accommodating me. By giving me a time slot to have him seen that day because I was really worried. Thanks again to everyone at Ali'i Animal Hospital and Resort for taking care of us! Mr. Buttfurs shares his mahaloz too ;D More...

We boarded our dog here for the first time last month and was hoping this would be his home away from home. The staff is awesome, always friendly and efficient. We really liked the vibe we got when he came in for his evaluation. The reason why I am giving this review four stars is because I was somewhat disappointed when we came to pick up our fur baby and asked the employee how our dog did and his response was, "I am not sure." Okay, we paid to have your establishment care for our fur baby for seven days and all they could tell me was he wasn't sure. They took good care of my fur baby, and we were able to see him online when we were away but was hoping to get some type of feedback when we picked him up even if they had said he got a long well with other dogs, or he was very needy at least we would have a clue on how he did when we were away from him for a long time. I get that they are a vet, day care and boarding facility but was hoping for the amount of money they charge they would have bonded somewhat with our fur baby. We will be planning for another trip within the next four months, in the meantime we will continue our search for a home away from home for our fur baby. The doctors and staff here are so nice and thorough. I've also been lucky enough to get same-day appointments, even for things that aren't super urgent--which is awesome. Parking can be a little bit difficult, but there's space every time that I've come. Appointments can last a long time (usually longer than they say they'll last), but you can leave to run errands and they're always willing to watch them until you return. More...

This is the third vet we've brought our 6 yr old lab to. Safe to say we will be staying put. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
