We found Ali while searching for a photographer for our small (15 guests) outdoor wedding this past July. Upon looking at her portfolio, we were immediately struck by her eye for intimate NYC scenes, in addition to her very reasonable pricing. Throughout the planning process, Ali was extremely communicative, full of her own suggestions and open to our ideas. On the wedding day, she was super fun and easy to work with and willing to literally go out on a limb to get the best shots. Working with Ali for our City Hall wedding was fantastic. She was very responsive as we planned our day, arrived right on time to City Hall, and spent a couple of hours photographing us after our ceremony. Ali knew a lot of solid spots for photos in the area, leaving us with great wedding photos. We felt really comfortable and had a lot of fun throughout the day. Ali did a great job capturing the surprise proposal snapshots. She shared amazing ideas for the poses and was very patient through the whole shoot. This acted as a
fantastic framework that carried us along throughout our shoot; despite this, she was quick to adapt her technique to both the weather and my individual skill-sets, and very quickly learnt in which direction she had to direct me in for me to look my best. All in all - she’s a sweetheart - we spent the afternoon giggling, finished way ahead of schedule, and she captured *dozens* of amazing photographs (a few of which, I will include in my updated modeling portfolio.) What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Each kind of photograph, each subject or purpose has its own secret, and understanding that while applying technical skill an aesthetic quality creates something beyond just a good photo; it becomes cinematic, striking, and something that pulls you in. Whether it’s a headshot that captures your special nuance, wedding photos to cherish for how they capture the love and joy of the moment, or captures the view of awe-inspiring sights.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What is the date and location of or your event? Is there a timeline would you like the shoot and the deliverables by? What are the must-haves for your shoot? Do you know how many images you would like to have fully edited?
What do you love most about your job?
On one hand, I really just enjoy taking photographs of all kinds as a form of self expression. On the other hand, I really love getting to work with people and putting my creative impulses and drive to improve to good use.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I had been taking photos for pleasure since I was a kid, and while I got my start in freelancing through illustration, I found I could apply similar skills and fill a broader range of needs through the camera medium. I more I do this work the more knowledgeable and fulfilled I feel.
