A waste of money. Honestly, I wanted Reedsy to be the authors' go-to for book services, but I was very disappointed. Don't get me wrong, Reedsy's free stuff on their blog and YouTube channel are really good. It's when it comes to paid services in the Marketplace that they disappoint.Let's start with the fees. They ask for 10% of the payment from the author. So if your designer asked for 500 GBP, you'll pay 550. But then the designer pays another 10% on his own revenue. So Reedsy takes off with 20% of the payment in total. That might be fine, until you're not ready to continue with the collaboration and want to cancel.Now, Reedsy fees are non-refundable. That's 10% off? No, that's 20% off because when you negotiate with the designer, he's negotiating on what HE had gotten, which is minus another 10%. So if you paid in total 550 GBP, the number you're negotiating in the refund is 440 GBP. So there's 60 GBP gone for Reedsy.Then you'll have to pay another 20% for the cancellation. So that's 352 GBP remaining for you. That, in addition to a "kill fee" negotiated with the designer. The designer I went with wanted 50% of the payment, which isn't 250 GBP, but 176 GBP. So you end up paying 374 GBP for simply nothing. More...

I think Reedsy offers great services. I turned to them in the last few months because of a book I'm making. This is my first book. I have learned a lot in this process about the search for a professional and the collaborations in general.Of course, to me, Reedsy is as good as its professionals are. If a professional doesn't work out, it's easy to be angry with Reedsy! I have been guilty of that. So, in order to be happy, it's important to find the right professional, and it's not always easy. Sometimes luck strikes, one finds the right person right away and there is no problem. But sometimes it's also easy to find the wrong person. I had such an experience recently. And when this happens, it's difficult to deal with the situation and it's always difficult to break a collaboration although not impossible. It's difficult in the sense that nobody really wants to reach the breaking point in the course of a collaboration.So, I have learned how to detect potential problems. I needed a designer for my book that is mostly a photography book with text. I eliminated right away the designers who never asked for a sample of the work, but told me they love to work on photography books. I eliminated those who ask me what my budget is. For me, I want to hear how much they charge. They don't need to know about my budget. Then I found designers that were clearly arrogant, or were too focused on my "targeted audience". I had to pass on those.So, the search process can be difficult. But I believe Reedsy has all sorts of professionals and some are top notch, and some not so good. Sometimes I was almost afraid to have to present my "amateur" book to seasoned professionals. But I had a great editor who wasn't arrogant and yet was top notch.Reedsy is what one makes of it! They even went so far as to link the review in question in their rationalization. Please read it and my reply on their site. I stand by my rating and won’t be using “discovery” again. Original: Absolute trash bin of a company. Two "entrepreneurs" traveling the world and living off dollars stolen from poor writers who should sue them into non-existence for the way they treat customers. They don't even have a phone number, and every conversation is one sided. Editorial reviews are treated like consumer reviews. These are different things! Reedsy is SO easy to use. Personally, it’s my favorite writing software. First and foremost, there’s the actual Reedsy Editor, which is clean, concise, and easy to navigate. It makes it simple to track goals and word count, as well as moving different objects around. It’s also a cinch to export your document in a PDF or iBooks format. My one small complaint is that you can’t export it as an editable document, but this is very minor and not much of an issue. Then, there’s the collaboration feature. I highly recommend this for anybody, but especially for new authors. I found myself overwhelmed by the thought of having to find and hire an editor, cover designer, interior designer, etc., but Reedsy made it easy and hassle-free. You simply make the request and send it to the professionals you’re interested in. Everything is done on Reedsy, and transactions are safe and secure. Furthermore, every single professional is verified, so you know that you’re getting the real deal.Finally, the customer support is incredibly fast, patient, and efficient. They’ve dealt with my sometimes (read: almost always) stupid questions multiple times and have always been kind and sympathetic, as well as helpful. Reedsy was a great discovery for me, for a particular kind of help I needed on my project: a substantial book of collected works. While I wanted the expertise of a professional editor, I wasn’t looking for editing of the content itself, but rather what I now know is called a “manuscript assessment.” Primarily, I wanted an overview of the organization of the content, and whether any of the pieces stood out and might serve to drive the organization. I pulled a few people to collaborate with and set my price in my introduction pitch. I had two people decline with legitimate reasons (can't work within price range and doesn't work in middle grades). It was nice to have the honesty upfront instead of someone just trying to make a quick buck. My editor was for copy editing and she was awesome. When I showed his edit to an experienced editor/author, one who has been on the USA Today bestseller list, let's say her review of his work was less than stellar.
