I've had lackluster experience with other chiropractors before but have been impressed with Dr Alcorn and his staff. Dr Alcorn is a good listener/communicator and explains the how and why of things I really appreciate (I'm a nuts and bolts kinda guy). I've also had two massages in his office with different massage therapists. One pushes hard on the sore spots to get the knots out while the other has a less direct and somewhat gentler technique to elongate the muscles to get the knots out. I might be leaning towards preferring the more direct application of pressure then the muscle elongation technique but both were pleasant and felt effective. I'll be coming back here when I need a chiropractor in the future. More...

Best chiropractor that I've been to in Philly to date! I went today to see Jason after having not such a good experience with another chiropractor. He is very knowledgeable about the human body and how being tight in one area affects other areas, both up and down stream. His tests, adjustments, and advice were great and I feel good about my recovery from a back strain. I plan on seeing him until my issues are resolved and I'm confident they will be soon under his guidance. I highly recommend him! More...

This review is long overdue. In September 2013, I suffered a pretty crippling back injury. My past experiences with chiropractic treatment made me hesitant to try it again, but after exhausting all other options, I decided to give it one more shot. To say that I'm "glad" I did, would be an understatement. I'm familiar with the easy-to-utter, dismissive treatment suggest for my ailments: "Cut back on dancing""Stop doing what you're doing."As a dancer, that's obviously unrealistic, and silly. I wanted to find a doctors office that would take my lifestyle into consideration, and offer me some other options as far as treatment/maintenance was concerned. Academy Chiropractic Center was/is all of that and more. Chiropractor Dr. Ryan Alcorn is incredibly thorough, knowledgable, and honest. He's gentle, and extremely easy to talk to- which is important to me because I ask a lot of questions. He's never once told me to "stop", but rather gave advice as far as stretching and strengthening suggestions so I could work towards lessening and even perhaps preventing my reoccurring back spasms- which now occur less frequently with less intensity. My pelvis has never been more level, and my mobility in my neck has significantly increased. Breathing has also never been physically easier- I know that might sound silly to some. As a dancer, I feel super sensitive to what's going on in my body...clearly :) ...now, I always look forward to my adjustments, and have never had a bad experience with any of them since seeing Dr. Ryan. As far as their massage therapist team...Jason, and Becca...there aren't enough words in the universe to describe them. Both of them are heavily involved in yoga and have a heightened awareness of kinetics- even more so than your average masseuse/masseur. I've had a decent amount of body work in my day, and I am not exaggerating when I say that they are the best at what they do. Jason and Becca make sure that they get into every "nook and cranny", and direct each massage to fit your needs at the time. They are attentive, and can be gentle, yet firm with their touch- and also just really stellar human beings, who sincerely care about your well being and existence. Overall, the environment is peaceful, calm, and provides the most ideal comfortable experience that one could could hope for with body work. Their location is super convenient, basically a few steps away from the subway/bus stops, and their hours are accommodating- which is great for those "emergency" visits. They do accept some insurances, and encourage you to see if your policy covers the visits and treatment. I do believe that they also take uninsured patients as well. Basically, I would recommend anyone and everyone to go check them out. I can say with certainty that you would not be disappointed in the least, and I'm willing to bet that your first visit will not be your last. A huge THANK YOU to the entire team at Academy Chiropractic Center. You guys are life-changing rock stars. More...

Wow! I am so glad and happy that I got a massage from Jason on short notice. I am from LA and I love massages. I have at least 5 regular therapists that work on me and only one of which is a guy. Add Jason to that list. I have had at least 25 different therapist and 125 massages+ in the past few years, Jason's massage was the BEST because he hit all those ugly knots dealing with my lower back issue in ways others haven't able to.  He manipulated my legs and stretched hams, t bands, glutts, grace, etc. and a good overall. I was a mess from a lot of driving and he was amazing.   His skill stems from 8+ years of massage and a decade of being a yoga teacher. A very strong deep tissue the way I like it and I may have to switch to male therapists now. A small darken massage room in a small chiro office. The location is central. Sadly you can hear the automatic doors from next door but you'll ignore it when you are groaning from your knots getting massaged out.  Parking is tough, read the parking signs, and give at least 20 minutes to find a spot or you can park at a garage. Best evening garage price I saw was $10.I am going to book a massage with Jason every time I am in Philly. More...

These guys are fantastic. I first found it through a groupon/yelp/google deals/etc deal, and I'm glad I did. Jason is one of the best massage therapists I've ever worked with, and the fact that it is part of insurance is great! Rather than just give me a generic massage, he listens to my problems, and spends as much time as needed to make the aches and pains go away. After working with him, I'll go and work with Ryan, who pays a lot of attention to the muscle groups, ligaments, etc that I need to focus on for running, and continues to address them. I've been seeing them just under a year at this point, and they can recall what parts of my body have gotten better, worse, etc over time. Can't say enough good things about them! Absolutely worth seeing, and when factored in that everything will go through insurance, it makes it even more of a no-brainer to work with them! Thank you Todd, Ryan, and Jason! More...

I purchased a deal for a discounted massage here.  ALthough I walk past the Academy House frequently, I had no idea that this gem of a place existed. It is small and hidden away from the main traffic area, but that gives it a quiet feeling, while still being centrally located. In any event, Becca did a fabulous massage.  She applied the right amount of pressure in the right places to erase my knots and make my sore muscles feel good again.  She did some gentle arm stretches too, something that is often overlooked in the spa massages.  The other staff were friendly and clearly understand the benefits of massage therapy.  The prices are moderate and the owner encourages you to see if your insurance company will cover the services. It doesn't get much better than this! More...

It was the perfect way to end a crazy work week. I would definitely recommend this place!Edit 11/12/13 - Yesterday I had a massage with Becca and we focused on my legs since I was extremely sore after a workout. Today, my legs feel a lot better! She massaged all of the sore areas without being too hard or too soft. More...

Have been going to Dr. Comer and his massage therapist Jason for the past year.  I can always get an appointment when I want and the service is great and friendly.  My session starts with a massage for ~20 minutes and then ~10 minutes of chiropractor treatment with Dr. Comer.  I feel loose and relaxed every time. And best of all, my insurance covers most of the treatment fees! This yelp ad says closed, but I last went to Dr. Comer in Nov. 2009.  Located in the Academy House.  He was thorough, fair in price (I didn't have insurance) and included a detailed, patient explanation of everything being done.  Listened to everything I had to say.  And offers the best of massage, adjustments, electrodes, heat therapy and rolling massage table.  He walked me through options, gave me icy-hot samples and directed me to other things I could do on my own.  Got me in at the last-minute same day appointment and called to follow-up to see how I was doing.  It was the greatest all around medical experience.
