I have attended Deer Mountain Day camp as a camper, counselor, and staff member in the office. In total, I have been apart of the Deer Mountain Family for over 10 years. I have loved and enjoyed each of my roles at Deer Mountain, and each and every summer I can’t think of anywhere I would rather spend my time. As a camper, I always felt welcomed and accepted. There were new activities I wanted to try, and I was always supported by counselors and friends. Initially, I was shy, and slow to warm up to my group, but my counselors did an amazing job introducing me to other campers, which eased my butterflies and helped me feel comfortable instantly. I looked up to each and every one of my counselors, as they modeled and engaged my group in activities around camp. To this day, I still keep in touch with the friends I made at camp, as those connections were extremely special and genuine. I learned to swim at Deer Mountain, and this was a huge accomplishment for myself as swimming was always a challenge for me. Each day I completed a new task in the pool, and with the help from my swim instructors, and support from my counselors and friends, I was able to pass the deep water challenge and swim comfortably in the water with my friends. I began my role as a counselor when I was 15 1/2 years old, and I had no idea I could enjoy a “job” as much as I did. Each summer following my first summer working as a counselor, there was no question as to whether I would be coming back. The connections I made with coworkers were extremely memorable and I have loved getting to know each and every one of my campers. My campers looked up to me for guidance and support when they sought help in any activity that they felt was challenging for them. There was no better feeling being able to guide a child through a challenging activity with the help of the instructor, and then witnessing them with a huge smile on their face at the end of it. Many campers have participated in a lot of their “firsts” at Deer Mountain. I have seen my campers swim by themselves for the first time, go across the zip line for the first time, and hit a tennis ball across the net for the first time. Throughout all of these “firsts,” campers get cheered on by staff members, as these are special moments that should be treasured and celebrated. Deer Mountain is more than a summer camp. It is a safe, accepting, and welcoming summer home. There is no place I would have rather spent over 10 of my summers, and there really is a place at Deer Mountain for everyone. The directors Roberta and Carol run an amazing day camp. They really care about each child and family and meeting their needs. My kids love this camp and have returned year after year. My son learned to knit, my daughter loves all of the activities and the friends she has made since age 3! We always suggest this camp to our friends and nobody has been disappointed. My son went to Deer Mountain Day Camp for the summer of 2018 and we are so excited to send him again for 2019! Last summer he entered in their nursery program as a 3, almost 4 year old, and he had soooo much fun. Before he started at this camp, he experienced separation anxiety during drop off to his school. The first 2 days we had a short bout of separation trouble but the bus counselor worked some magic and onto the bus he went. By the end of the first week, he could not get on the bus fast enough. Even now, we haven't had any separation trouble at school drop offs. Over the summer, thanks to DMDC, my son learned the basics of how to swim and no longer needs a swimmy in the pool. He was so proud of his new swimming abilities and so am I. Every day he came home with new art or new stories of friends and adventures he had. His favorite, still to this day, was candy land. In addition to being a staff member during the 2018 summer, my son attended DMDC for the first time, so I got to experience the magic of camp through his eyes as well. He bounced onto the bus every day and couldn’t wait to get to camp to see his counselors, new friends, and what exciting activities were on the schedule for the day! His energy and enthusiasm never faded and he was always excited to share what his group was up to when he got home at the end of the day. The assortment of activities available to him, even as a 3 year old, was astounding to me. He loved taking part in cooking, photography, ceramics and his favorite was swimming. As a former lifeguard, it was very important to me that he learned to be comfortable in the water, any real swimming skills were just a bonus. At the beginning of the summer, he was hesitant and would barely enter the pool, but to my surprise, by the end of the summer he was independently swimming and loved showing us how he dunked his head underwater. As a staff member, I was lucky to be able to see both the day-to-day operations as well as get to know the staff personally. I was genuinely impressed by the level of care that all staff members afforded each camper. All of the activity staff were passionate about their areas of expertise and were able to share those passions with campers in an age-appropriate way. And my son’s counselors and Division Leader were incredible! I can’t say enough about how wonderful they were. My son still talks about his favorite activities, even in the depths of winter, and can’t wait to get back to camp next summer. Joining the DMDC family has been so much more to me than a summer job. It has been an enriching experience for my family, and I would highly recommend the experience to anyone looking for a great summer for their children, or a place to call their summer home. More...

Deer Mountain is an integral part of my family. I started as a camper in 1979 and my kids started in 2007 and 2011. To say that we have all grown up at Deer Mountain would not be an overstatement. When it was time for my own children to start camp, it never even occurred to me to look anywhere else. That was not a mistake! They have both had the same wonderful experiences I had as a camper, but have also benefited from the camp's evolution to the 21st century. The staff, program, special events, etc are all amazing. My kids have learned so many valuable skills (the least of which being amazing swimmers) and made lifelong friendships at Deer Mountain. They have had counselors they look up to and are true role models. They feel safe to try new things, yet always look forward to the annual camp traditions too. As a parent, I have always felt confident in their safety (physical and emotional) being in good hands at camp. I recommend Deer Mountain wholeheartedly!! More...

I have loved Deer Mountain since I was 5 years old. I was a camper, counselor, division leader and now my 2 boys go there as well. I cannot say enough about what they do at this camp. EVERY family is treated as an individual. The child as a whole is the priority! When it was time for my boys to go back to camp I looked around. I live in Stamford, Connecticut and there are plenty of camps between here and Deer Mountain. However, I did not find one that could compare in facilities, camper/counselor ratio, or program. This is the reason I travel an hour a day to take my boys here. It’s only March and they have been asking about going to camp since November. They spent their time in the nursery last year and loved every second of it. This year my older son will move up to Feshman boys and he is looking forward all of the new activities he gets to try. I suggest taking the time to tour the camp if you’re looking for an amazing camp that will help your child grow as an individual both physically and mentally. I can honestly say that those are the fondest memories of growing up and I was a competitive figure skater at Sport O Drama! I can't believe the stage is still the same little building!!! I worked here in the summer of 2018 and I think the most memorable thing was meeting such great people. As part of the media team, I got to learn the stories of so many people, both campers and employees, who have treasured their experiences at DMDC since they were a child. The generations of campers and employees, and especially the camp owners who took over for their parents, is evident of just how much this camp has affected the lives of so many.On the last day of camp, so many teen campers were in tears at the thought of their last summer at DMDC coming to an end. Everyone at the camp really tries to make it such a genuine experience for the campers.I was also impressed at the immense talent in the staff, specifically the sports staff, who had a rich background in whatever sport they taught. Deer Mountain is the Premier Upstate NY Day Camp. Not only are they ACA accredited but their standards go above and beyond. I have my checklist of strict, standard and out of the box summer camp questions and without any doubt all was satisfied. From the owner Roberta's sincere and honest compassion and interest into the well being of your child to the actual counselors care is outstanding. This summer camp does convenient pick ups and drops off in AC buses with bus counselors, a variety of food available at camp, a plethora of activities at the camp and trips. Bullying or even a smidgen of it is not tolerated so parents feel relaxed knowing that they are accommodating and your child is very well cared for. They also adjust for allergies. My favorite part is that the kids are diverse coming from in and around Manhattan. You really cannot ask for anything more its a huge facility with AC units so kids can relax from the sun. With so many great weekly themes and events your kids will not stop talking about all the fun they had. This is a definite A+ recommendation. More...

My daughter really loves camp! A bus picks her up at 8 am and brings her back at 5 pm. Her counselors call me once a week to let me know how Axele is enjoying camp and to see if I have any questions (my daughter's a chatterbox, so it's like I'm there every day, but I appreciate the contact with her counselors! ). My daughters just love Deer Mountain! My older daughter has been going to camp there for the past 5 summers. Ever since she started in the Nursery, my husband and I knew she would be safe and taken care of, and have tons of fun. She loves everything there! Every year she can't wait for camp to start. My youngest is in her second year and is learning to swim and play sports. She is making so many friends! And where else can you get all these activities in one place: archery, swimming, boating, ropes, cooking, arts & crafts, drama, dance, woodworking, sports, etc.? We looked at many camps, but after touring Deer Mountain and talking to Roberta and Carol Katz, we knew that our daughters would be well taken care of --that the owners really care about their campers and their emotional and physical well-being.
