What do you love most about your job?
I love watching dogs develop new skills, learning what pleases their humans ; I enjoy seeing the relationship blossom between owner and dog
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always loved dog training and behavior.
In my Graduate work as a Therapist my thesis was a comparative study of how children learn vs how dogs learn. They are very similar.
I worked my way through college as a Vet Tech and Evaluator/Behavioral Counselor for dogs at the Humane Society. When I retired as a Therapist , I worked in the legal arena and was heavily involved in preventing Breed Specific Legislation and promoting compassionate care, health and welfare for all animals most especially dogs
I retired and started my Dog Training/Behavioral Business.

My methods are science based, effective, and positive. Dogs learn best, as do children, when there is no fear, anxiety or pain. I have over 27 years of experience working with dog behavior and have had great success in training dogs and working with problem behaviors.
I have taken my own dogs to a high level of obedience: AKC: CGS, CC and UC awards. We compete in and have recently attained our Rally Obedience Intermediate title and compete in high level Nosework ( scent work) (receiving our Intermediate level) and Therapy dog work.
I have trained and placed 15 successful Service Dog teams in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas.

Yes I can and I do. I work remotely through zoom, Facebook, Skype and other online forums. I have clients in various parts of the country. My online/remote clients have been pleased with the results.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Even now, with covid19 becoming less prevalent, we are vigilant at Best Friends Dog Training, Behavior & Evaluations to be mindful of health. If I or any staff member has cold like symptoms we stay at home. Each of us is vaccinated and boostered as is recommended by the health care profession.
We are also able to conduct our training sessions via online sessions for you, from the comfort and safety of your home.
Obedience-Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced
I train dogs for Beginning Basic Obedience, which is Canine Good Citizen; I train Intermediate which is Community Canine with AKC and also worked with Advanced Obedience which includes Off Leash Training, and Urban Canine Award with AKC

I train Service Dogs to assist with a variety of disabilities to include: Diabetic Alert Dogs, Seizure Alert dogs; hearing ear dogs, mobility and psychiatric or emotional issues such as PTSD, Anxiety disorders, Agoraphobia and Social Anxiety
Therapy Dogs
I am an Instructor, Evaluator, Ambassador and Handler, licensed with Pet Partners Therapy Pets
I hold Therapy Dog class every other Friday at nursing homes, hospitals etc. The dogs learn while we visit. You will enjoy every moment
CLASS Instructor and Evaluator
I teach CLASS which is a new skill set for dogs. There are various levels and the CLASS is sponsored by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. It's fun and a challenge!
AKC Evaluator and Instructor
I train dogs to pass the American Kennel Club STAR Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, Community Canine and Urban Canine awards. I'm also an Evaluator for the program
Problem or behavioral issues
I work with dogs and their guardians to prevent and solve issues such as anxiety, reactivity and /or aggression towards people or other dogs.
