Guitar Lessons

Andy is a superb instructor. I have been one of Andy's students for 7 months now, and I learned more in my first three weeks with Andy than I did in 3 years of other, non-personalized online instruction. I have become an even greater guitar enthusiast as a result. I highly recommend him. More...

I have been taking virtual lessons with Andy for a year now. As a semi retired physician, I have been a student/teacher almost my entire life. Being an expert in your field does not mean you have the ability to teach. You need a teacher that knows what needs to be mastered and then customize a plan to teach that individual. Andy has that skill set. My only regret is that my lessons cannot be in person. More...

Guitar Lessons

Andy is a great guitar teacher. I've had quite a few guitar teachers in the past, however, I'd say Andy is the best one. He is very flexible in his scheduling. Andy is great at communicating information using great visuals. He offers pdfs on lessons to revisit if need be which is quite helpful. Andy responds well to your goals and always keeps them in mind when designing his personal lesson to you. I would suggest Andy to any guitar player regardless of skill level, he is quite knowledgeable and anyone can learn something from Andy. More...

Guitar Lessons

I had taken guitar lessons from 3 previous instructors but I learned more from Andy in 4 months than I learned from all the previous instructors combined. Andy’s unique teaching methods makes understanding and comprehension so much easier. Also he is extremely flexible and very astute at understanding my learning needs and wants. For the first time in many years of trying I know I can now be successful at playing guitar because of Andy’s guidance and amazing teaching abilities. More...

Q&As

I like helping aspiring guitarists progress on their instruments. To me the guitar is the best instrument in the world. Nothing else comes close. And being able to teach others how to play the guitar does not feel like a job to me. It's fun!

I started teaching guitar while I was still a student at Berklee. First, I showed a few things to my band mates. Then our drummer recommended that I start putting out some flyers to get more clients. Eventually I realized that I enjoy teaching more than gigging, so I made it my fulltime job after graduating from Berklee.

A good guitar player is not necessarily a good guitar teacher. And not every good guitar teacher is the right teacher for every student. Make sure you have a good connection with your teacher.

It's important that a guitar teacher can understand a student's needs and show the student exactly how to progress. He/she needs to be able to show a student the necessary skills.

A good teacher also understands the psychological aspects of learning the guitar. Our mindset is more important than anything when it comes to learning an instrument.

Why are some people more motivated than others to practice?

Why do some people have a strong desire to master an instrument while others give up?

How can we become more motivated and more passionate?

These are all questions I can answer if you pick me as your guitar teacher :)

I can provide guitar lessons to anyone in the world remotely. I have used Skype and Google hangouts, but nowadays I prefer using Zoom. In my experience it is best for music lessons.

I switched to 100% remote lessons to keep my students 100% safe.

Services

As Gary Moore said in one of his songs... "It's a pain you can't live with, it's a woman you can't live without. That's what the Blues is all about."

Blues is not just a style, but a way to express your feelings. All of our current contemporary music has a connection to the Blues.

If Blues is what you want to learn, you have come to the right place. I will teach you how to play Blues rhythm guitar and Blues solo guitar. We will analyze all the components of the style. You will learn about Blues progressions, turnarounds, what scales and chords to use, and how to create your own licks using those scales.

We will analyze the styles of some of the most important Blues guitarists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many others. We will also cover the very important topic of phrasing. You will learn how to do sliding, bending, and vibrato like a pro.

Once you have a good command of all the necessary tools, we will explore exercises that will train you how to play with "feeling". Yes, that is something that you can actually practice!

I will show you how to acquire all the skills you need to become a great Rock guitar player. We will analyze the styles of Rock bands from the 1960's and 1970's such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Who, AC/DC and others. Then we will move on to the next two decades of Rock and look at bands such as Guns n' Roses, Queen,
Metallica, Bon Jovi, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Z.Z. Top, Aerosmith, and others.

Do you want to play like Jimmy Page, Slash, or Eddie Van Halen? I will teach you the techniques that guitar virtuosos use. We will cover alternate picking, sweeping, legato, economy picking, and tapping. I will not only show these techniques to you, I will give you systems and practice methods that will make sure that you progress as fast as possible.

I will teach you how to play electric guitar. If you are a complete beginner, we will start with the basics. You will learn about all the parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar, how to tune the guitar, how to hold the pick, and how to fret notes. We can also talk about how to set up your guitar and amp, so that you get the sounds you want.

After we cover the basics, I will design a specific course with your music goals in mind. Topics can include, strumming basic chords, playing and singing at the same time, guitar techniques, rhythm, phrasing, improvisation, composition, sight reading, ear training, and other topics that are related to the electric guitar.

I will teach you how to play acoustic guitar. If you are a complete beginner, we will start with the basics. You will learn about all the parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar, how to tune the guitar, how to hold the pick, and how to fret notes.

After we cover the basics, I will design a specific course with your music goals in mind. Topics can include strumming basic chords, playing and singing at the same time, guitar techniques, rhythm, fingerpicking, improvisation, composition, sight reading, ear training, various styles, and other topics that are related to the acoustic guitar.

Music theory applies to all styles of music. The more you know about music theory, the more creative you can become as a musician. In your first lesson we will determine what your music background is and where to start.

We will then cover topics such as intervals, scales, chords, chord progressions, song structures, composition, and other topics that are related to music theory.
