How important is a healthy diet to someone’s health and wellbeing?
At Taylored, we have a Four Pillar Health Philosophy to help guide our holistic wellbeing products and services. In order of importance: Mindset | Lifestyle | Nutrition | Movement. Without the right type of mindset or way to support a healthy lifestyle, often nutrition plans don't work long-term. That is why we work on the first two, at the same time as learning about habits and behaviours around how a person eats. Are they looking for comfort? Are they looking for energy? Are they stuck in an eating ritual that isn't serving them? Are they eating things that are actually making it hard for them to think clearly, sleep well, and help them heal?
How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?
Our Four Pillar Philosophy guides all our healthcare practices. We first take people through a comprehensive health assessment to understand where they are and what got them here. Then we work towards digging into short, mid and long-term goals...and most critically, WHY those goals are important to them. Then, based on their unique situation we create a treatment plan which includes multiple health services to help them make consistent and long-term change towards their goals.
What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?
The secret is: saying "yes" to yourself and your health because you deserve it AND showing up to do the work...because you're worth it.
What do you love most about your job?
Seeing lives change...not only the people who come to see us but also their families. We've had so many examples of our clients children saying to their parent "you're so much calmer, Daddy" or "you really aren't as angry as you used to be". The fact that we are working with our clients to change not only their lives, but become an example for their partners, kids, family, friends and colleagues is amazing.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Luke and I started this business because we grew up being frustrated at our own (or a loved ones) health journey. Some of us were (mis)diagnosed and left to fend for ourselves. Others were high performance athletes trying to deal with chronic injuries.
Somewhere along the way, we thought “there has to be a better way“. That lead us into the world of health and life science to figure it out. We’ve spent the last 10 years working to understand what the ‘right conditions’ are, forming the basis of the Taylored Four Pillar Philosophy of health. Everything we do here, looks to address health and well-being in the following order.
Mindset
Getting and staying healthy is really a mental game. But we live in a world where ‘quick fixes’ are the norm. When we don’t see results or experience set-backs, we often feel like giving up.
Lifestyle
Part of the mental game is ensuring you set yourself up for day-to-day success. By layering on key habits and building a support system, it becomes easier to make the right health decisions.
Nutrition
Used correctly, food can be an incredibly powerful healing tool. But it’s hard to make great nutrition decisions if you’re tired and your lifestyle choices don’t make those decisions easy.
Movement
This is where most of us start. However, without the right mindset, lifestyle, or nutrition to support new movement practices, we don’t see the results we want, find it too hard, get hurt and/or give up.
Why should our clients choose you?
In an industry full of solo health practitioners, we’re work as a team to solve health problems. We combine our all our skills to create a truly holistic approach to our work so people can finally get the answers they're looking for.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We primarily work with our clients in-person, as our 375m² Health Hub is located in the heart of Hamilton CBD, serving members across the Waikato. The facility offers a mix of movement (gym) equipment, yoga/mediation space, an educational kitchen (coming soon) and therapy rooms.
However, we do provide remote services - namely through our Taylored Reset Program, which is delivered through Zoom and (typically) monthly or quarterly trips into Hamilton.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We're continuing to comply with all COVID-19 recommendations provided by the Ministry of Health. We have mitigation and support plans should the Waikato/New Zealand return to Level 3 or 4 lockdown, which includes providing remote services to ensure our clients remain mentally and physically health during a time at which immunity is critically important.
Personalised Coaching
Other places just offer “personal training” which is just about movement. As a holistic health hub, our Four Pillar Model delivers personalised coaching, working as a team to treat the “whole person” through our flagship membership, Taylored Focus.
Massage Therapy
Our 5-star industry-leading massage therapists are experts in manual therapy, stress relief and unloading any imbalances. Combined with personalised movement coaching, this creates a powerful healing tool for injury recovery & rehab.
Small Group Training
This is a semi-personalised form of group movement with a maximum group size of 8. That means you get similar attention to a 1:1 personalised coaching session, but at a lower price point while joining others on a similar journey of health.
Prenatal & Postnatal Care
Whether you’re trying to conceive, carrying, or caring for a new baby, all our services are adapted by our qualified specialists to keep mother and baby safe, healthy, happy and ready for delivery or recovery. We also have a child-friendly play zone!
Workplace Wellness
Unlocking Performance.
The Health and Safety Workplace Act (HSWA) has changed the way we view health and safety in the workplace. It is not just about compliance; it’s about getting (and keeping) people healthy & safe. It’s also about helping them unlock their potential and increasing work satisfaction.
Our programs are underpinned by the Taylored Four Pillar Health Philosophy, and adapt to the age and stage of workplaces we choose to work with.
Personalised Care
We meet your team & their health exactly where they are. Depending on their situation & assessment results, our Taylored health team walk alongside each of them, to where they (& you) want to be.
Designed for Impact
We’re not interested in ‘average’ results. Our services are designed for busy people who are serious about their long-term health & want maximum impact for minimum, but regular effort.
Life Coaching
We help you better understand what success looks like to you with simple, clear and measurable goals to help you get there. We also work on habits, boundaries and behavioural elements to support growth and healing.
Performance Coaching
Whether centered around business or athletic performance, we work with the latest science and biohacking to get the best out of your cognitive and physical health.
Functional Genetics & Biochemistry
Genetics
If you have ever done (or are interested in) genetic testing, we are able to translate complex genetic insights into practical, every day health action plans.
Biochemistry
Using urine and stool analysis, we can work to improve cellular health, energy metabolism and gut health. Not only does this often lead to improved overall energy, but helps to combat skin conditions and stomach problems
Strength & Conditioning (Personal Training)
Once imbalances and mobility issues are identified and treated, we are then able to build upon strength and cardiovascular elements to create healthy movement practices for a strong, lean, pain-free body.
Clinical Exercise Physiology
Clinical Exercise Physiology (CEP) is a specialty service, similar to physiotherapy but focuses on using functional movement practices to mobilise and treat physical injury and/or imbalances.
