Mick and Synergy Building Consultants were a pleasure to work with on the extension and refurbishment of my house. From the outset Mick explained the process in detail and really knew his stuff, making some great practical suggestions for getting the most out of the space and budget. All the tradesmen he had did a great job and Mick was very proactive in lining them up and moving the job along. He was always on the other end of the phone to deal with any queries. Some of the main points a homeowner should check before thinking about any conversion are ...
Foundations - Does existing structure have the correct strip foundations that will support any future renovations and roof loads, extensions to period style homes would have flag stones approximately laid down six inches below ground level ...Current building regulations will not permit this
What is the size thickness and type of brick/block work currently used ... Is the correct DPC membranes in place to prevent capillary action from rising damp
Is the floor slab correct thickness to prevent cracking. (has mesh been used for the structural integrity)
What is the direction of sewer lines from back to front garden. (is there access junctions)
To fully comply with current technical guidance documents, there is a clearance of 2.4m - 8ft from finish floor level to under side of ceiling
Insulation to walls --- Is a Isover internal wall system required

Listed above are some of the main points, However if its the case the homeowner can guarantee how the original garage was built, it can be for greater peace of mind and more cost effective to start from scratch....That way the client can be assured that the garage roof & wall loads will be suited to the foundations.... DPC & radon barriers are correctly installed...airtightness membranes and tapes can be used to help with heating costs... and with a new build like that the client can rest assured for the next 20 - 30 years....Resting in the fact and knowing that the job was done rite from day one

What guarantee does your work come with?
New builds - major renovations - extensions can come with a 10 year global home structural warranty. Don’t forget: while planning permission isn’t always necessary for an extension, building regulations sign-off are.
What do you love most about your job?
From initial design stage and througout the job, at the end of each day being able to walk away fullfilled with a feeling of accomplisment for having completed a good days work.
At the final hand over, a warm feeling of accomplisment and a huge amount of gratitude for the team and all involved. The happieness when inviting the client into the new space we have all helped to create.

What inspired you to start your own business?
Working with tier 1 contractors I missed the personal interactions with clients, there is something very special about entering into an agreement/commitment with a client from the initial stages of any project, its a pleasure to watch the clients heart open with excitement a little more and more each day as the project moves along, the look of awe and wonder on their faces accompanied with such gratitude for getting the job done, and done rite the first time. Also for me personally I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment with job satisfaction from moment to moment as the days goes by. I love what I do, and life is to precious and short not to be happy and fully contented with your career. Working for myself is not a job...its a personal choice and and since the beginning it doesn't feel like I have worked a day. I love what I do
Why should our clients choose you?
There is only one way to-do things, and that's correct way for getting things done in an efficient manner. We think and plan ahead and can foresee any potential problems that might crop up around potential design and build issues. By the end of our projects we have both a very happy client and while on the journey through the project we made a new friendship, that for me is a huge part of why I do this.
