Let me introduce myself, my name is Catrina and I am a fully qualified Home Economist. For the past 6 years I have been hosting Baking Parties and designing and making Celebration Cakes. The Baking Parties are primarily for children, however I would be more than happy to cater for adults as well. My Celebration Cakes are bespoke, as you will see from the cake gallery on my website, no two cakes are alike. I work very closely with my clients so that together we create a stunning and memorable cake for your special day. From consultation, right through to delivery and set up you can expect both a personal and professional service.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the fantastic feedback I get from my clients. Working closely with my clients on something so special is a privilege. I enjoy each of the stages from designing to baking to decorating, seeing a design come to life is really exciting.

What inspired you to start your own business?

My family and friends. The baking parties came first as my children and their friends loved to come over to bake and I thought I could do this in the form of a party. People then asked if I made cakes. Up until then I had only done so for my family. My husband helped me to create a website so I could showcase my work, and from that along with recommendations I have been busy ever since.

Why should our clients choose you?

I provide a very personal service. From the beginning when you come to taste some cake we talk about your ideas and maybe look at invitations, colours and themes. I will then sketch some ideas which we will tweak together until we come up with a stunning cake, which I will then create. Throughout the whole experience I will be able to guide you as to what will work well so that your cake is truly special.

It’s best to order your wedding cake as early as possible. The best wedding cake bakers will get booked up quickly, so it’s never too soon to get your wedding cake booked in, especially if you’re hoping for a specific baker. Summer is particularly popular for weddings, so you may find that dates get booked up more quickly for summer weddings.

Most wedding cake bakers will offer a cake tasting session. This gives you an opportunity to meet your wedding cake baker, talk to them about your ideas for your cake design and sample some of the flavours on offer. Your wedding cake tasting should be booked for about six months before your wedding day to allow you to finalise the design of your cake and to choose your flavours.

Traditionally, a wedding cake has three tiers. The bottom tier is said to be for eating at the wedding, while the middle tier is for giving to friends and family after the wedding. The top tier is traditionally saved for the christening of the first child. Today, wedding cakes can be any number of tiers – and you can eat as much of them as you like!
