Lily and bee

Hello and welcome to Lily and Bee! My name is Emma and I'm the face behind Lily & Bee (and the face - literally - behind the sunflower here!). So here I am! What do you need to know about me? Well, I’ve been a florist since I was 15, I came as a Saturday girl and 35 years later I'm still here! (I'll let you do the math!). I am qualified to level 4 in City and Guilds and have 35 years industry experience. I love all aspects of floristry, but weddings and events are my true passion. Nothing beats that feeling of seeing a bride’s face, that moment she sees her bouquet for the first time, (even though I still feel sick every time I knock the door with the bridal flowers!). I am a qualified floristry lecturer and assessor with over 9 years of teaching experience. I am passionate about British flowers and try to use locally sourced British flowers as much as possible. My style is a very relaxed country vibe and I love to use seasonal colour pallets. Here at Lily and Bee we are trying to be as plastic free as possible, so no cellophane here! In the spring of 2021, I planted a small flower patch that I cut from, I already have plans to expand it in 2023. I dream of a large field of British flowers to tend to in the not too distant future! Lily and Bee is named after my grandmother, Beatrice and her twin Lilian. Lily and Bee is a studio-based florist in the village of Southwick just outside Portsmouth. We also have a pop-up flower cart at Southwick village store and tearooms that is stocked with seasonal floral arrangements each weekend. I would spend my whole life outside if I could! There is something magical about watching the seasons come and go and the joy of planting a tiny seed and watching it grow and blossom into a beautiful flower. I’ve worn many floristry hats in my 32 years. Saturday girl, Senior florist, Manager, Freelancer, Business owner, Employer, Teacher & Grower. But as long as I have flowers in my hands, I'm happy!

What do you love most about your job?

How far in advance should I book you?
Your wedding flowers are likely to form a key part of your décor, so I recommend getting in touch as soon as you've booked your venue and set your date. Generally booking is 12-18 months in advance to avoid disappointment. Key dates such as Easter and bank holidays get booked up very quickly.

Is seasonality important in your work?
Yes! Flowers are at their best during their peak season and it is lovely to try and reflect the seasons through your arrangements, nothing beats using British seasonal flowers. I am a firm believer in grown not flown when it comes to your florals. Using seasonal florals means you are using things that are at their peak in size, condition and scent.

Will you come to visit our venue?
We can discuss this at your consultation. I have extensive knowledge of the venues in the area so this may not be necessary however I am happy to meet you at your venue. This incurs a small charge to cover travel and time.

I generally cover Portsmouth and the surrounding areas heading to the New Forest in the west across to West Sussex up to Petersfield and every were in between.

Where do you source your flowers?
I have several trusted suppliers that I have worked with for many years. My wholesaler purchases from the UK, Holland and beyond, I source my seasonal flowers from Hampshire growers as much as I can and dip into my own cutting garden, my Dahlias are my pride and joy.

Will it be just you working on our flowers, or do you have a team?
Generally, it will be myself creating your florals. However for larger weddings and events I have a trusted team of freelancers that work with me, but all under my close supervision.

Where and when can we meet for consultations?
Initial consultations are held in my studio just outside Portsmouth by appointment, where we will talk through all your requirements and look at various containers, props, portfolios and flowers.
Saturday appointments are very limited as I'm often out on site or delivering on a Saturday morning. Evening appointments are available.

How do I pay?
I require a £100 non-refundable deposit to secure the date. The balance is required 2 weeks before the wedding.

Do You deliver?
Yes, I deliver to the main bridal party and the venue. Additional delivery addresses may incur an extra charge.

Do you have much wedding experience?

Yes, weddings and events are my real passion and I have over 35 years' experience in the field. Everything from a small intermit wedding to a large venue with 8 bridesmaids.

If you have questions about your wedding flowers that aren't answered on this page, then please don't hesitate to get in touch for a chat.
