PLH Counselling

I am an integrative Counsellor, using person centred, psychodynamic and CBT strands of counselling therapy. I have also trained to be a life coach and encompass aspects of this, where appropriate, in my counselling techniques. However, I'm a great believer that each and every one of us holds the answers to our problems and issues, sometimes we just need a gentle push in the right direction to glean these answers from our psyche or even the filing cabinet in the back of our brain.

What do you love most about your job?

I love listening to people and their stories. It is most satisfying watching someone improve in their mental wellbeing week on week and being able to show them the improvement with regular reviews.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I hit rock bottom a number of years ago and couldn't see a way out until someone introduced me to an agency that provided self-help group sessions and counselling. I wasn't ready for the group sessions but boy-oh-boy did the counselling help. It saved me from myself! Following further counselling after a bereavement I felt my calling - this was what I was destined to do, to help others come back from the depths of despair and prove that there is life after depression and there is a way back from rock bottom. I have trained for several years and undertaken additional training to supplement my counselling training some of which happened during Covid and the 'new way' of doing things - online! In this sense, Covid has been a blessing in disguise as it has provided me with experience and training in online and telephone counselling which I wouldn't ordinarily have received whilst also becoming more accessible to more people, who may otherwise not have bothered with counselling.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am flexible and tailor our sessions around your needs and desires. I undergo regular training and CPD to ensure I am up to date with the goings on in the profession. I am non-judgemental, as all counsellors should be, and I too have been low, depressed, stressed, anxious etc and have suffered some traumas in my lifetime too. As a result, it is most likely that I will 'get you'. I am living proof that you can get through whatever it is and come out the other side smiling. I like mindfulness and woluld encourage everyone to take time out to do some mindfulness and self-care. I will 'hold your hand' and walk side by side with you as you venture on the path towards a brighter future.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I'm happy to provide remote counselling therapy - via the telephone or via Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, FaceTime etc - with or without the screen on, I'll happily work with what you are comfortable with. Furthermore, this is not rigid - if you want to change from telephone to Zoom with/without your screen on or eventually meet face to face, when you are ready, I am flexible and happy to work at your pace.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Covid-19 has changed this profession, I believe, for the better insofar as it is now more accessible. Previously, it was very much face to face and telephone/online counselling was certainly not something covered in our training. However, I underwent specific online and telephone counselling training and was able to offer this during the pandemic. Since venturing outdoors and meeting face to face, I have taken client's temperatures and abided by other Covid guidelines, such as hand sanitiser, antibacterial wipes or spray on the furniture following each client, face masks etc. This has reduced as guidelines have eased. I continue to wipe and spray following each client and use hand sanitiser on a regular basis.
