The Relationship people provide a combination of counselling and coaching for individuals, couples and adolescents, as well as complementary services. You and your situation are unique. Something is causing you and those involved distress or a feeling that something needs to change. You have taken the first step in looking for help, but what sort of help is best for you ? Experience has shown that a combination of counselling and coaching that looks at the bigger picture and provides a tailored response that recognises your uniqueness is most effective. Rather than try to fit you into one category of support, by looking at the bigger picture, we are able to identify which combination of the interventions listed below will be helpful to you. Relationship / marriage counselling. Life Coaching. Adolescent counselling and coaching Family Counselling. Mindfulness. Assertive communication. We believe that in order to help, individuals, couples or families effectively, the counsellor/coach needs wide and varied experience and skills. Being able to work with the areas listed above allows us to look at the whole picture and find a way forward for you. Counselling has it's place, but very often people like and respond better to a combination of counselling and coaching, with other complementary input included. Examples: 1. In couple counselling, after doing some initial work, which may typically involve improving communication, it may be that underlying factors may also be contributing: such as lack of career fulfillment, difficulty being assertive or lack of confidence. Identifying these and including some life coaching in these areas can be key in improving the relationship, even though these are often not the presenting problem. 2. A step parent may be having difficulty with their partners adolescent child/young person, threatening to cause a break down between parent and partner. We have the experience and flexibility to work effectively with the adolescent as well as with the parent and step parent, which may be essential in finding a way forward. It could be that the adolescent is poorly motivated and not in education or training, causing tension in the home. If so career support and guidance and motivational input would be included. 3. An individual or one of a couple may need to broaden their horizons but be held back by lack of confidence and anxiety. Some mindfulness and assertiveness input may help as part of the overall support. The input will be tailored to you and those involved but will generally include the following: > A comprehensive look at all the factors involved. > Help to identify areas that need to change in order to agree a planned way forward. > Motivational work, with a positive forward looking approach. > Cognitive Behavioural Input (CBT) A well proven approach that helps us see our own barriers and deal with relationship challenges and life. > Work on effective communication, including being assertive (not aggressive or passive) > Support and guidance on achieving the goals that have been agreed. We have wide ranging experience having helped many families and adopt a professional but flexible approach. We offer a Free initial phone consultation, you may have some questions to be sure we are the right kind of support. Please phone Nick on 077•• ••••••, or text or e mail h•••••@••••.co.uk

What do you love most about your job?

My current career which started in 1991 has given me the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people and families and help them to thrive. I find this rewarding, often challenging and never boring.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I find I am motivated and work most effectively when I have the flexibility to work in the way I feel is best for my clients. While I very much value the experience and training I had in working for the Local Authority and Child and Adolescent Mental health with the NHS, I felt my combination of skills and experience would be best applied through my own business.

Why should our clients choose you?

>One size doesn't fit all:
In my experience many counsellors, coaches, therapists, often have a narrow field of experience and approach that may not be a good fit for some of the clients/families they work with. I am able to offer a holistic approach that looks at the big picture and I can be creative, drawing on a wide range of skills and experience in how I help.
> Cost effective:
My charges are reasonable and I aim to, identify with you areas we agree to work on and move things on quickly, while being thorough, with a solution focused positive approach.
>Experience:
I come from a background which has brought me into contact with a diverse range of people, I worked in retail prior to re training in my early 30's (1991) making me well grounded, while I have qualifications and undergone extensive training, I am not a text book person, but someone with life experience who has learned a lot a long the way. I have a passionate belief in people's ability to thrive and have found I have natural ability to relate to people and help them do so. When employed in the field I gained experience in working with, children, young people and parents including for the Child and Adolescent mental health service , CAMHS, working with hundreds of families over the years.
