Jane Barber trainee psychotherapist WMIP

I am a trainee psychotherapist at West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy (WMIP). The psychotherapy provided is open ended, a few weeks or months, or can extend to years. It is based on the theories of CG Jung and those who have developed his ideas since. I provide a unique opportunity to access this kind of psychotherapy at affordable prices - the cost will reflect what you are able to pay. Each of us is a unique individual with a lot of potential but so often traumatic or difficult life experiences lead to feelings of depression, unhappiness, being lost, on the wrong track, missing out, somehow dissatisfied or incomplete. These feelings can affect relationships and make it difficult to live life as we would wish. This therapy depends on a trusting committed relationship between therapist and client. In this framework it is possible for difficult and painful issues to be talked about, managed and contained safely. Sessions are often once weekly but twice or three times weekly sessions are also available and such in depth work often leads to significant and lasting life changes. Adults of all ages are likely to find benefit - it is never too late to start. I have worked for many years as a medical GP with particular interests in mental health, drug and alcohol use and palliative care. I have many hours of voluntary counselling experience with the bereavement charity Cruse. I have always wished for more time to spend with people and to work in greater depth and I am glad to have the opportunity to do this now.

What do you love most about your job?

After a long career as a GP it is good now to have more time to be with people and explore their difficulties together in depth.
As a GP I have known people and their families over many years, often two or three generations. I am glad still to be able to make meaningful relationships in this new phase of my working life as a psychotherapist.

What inspired you to start your own business?

In private practice as a trainee psychotherapist I continue to have the autonomy I have enjoyed as a GP partner, being my own boss. As a trainee at West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy my work continues to be supervised by a senior psychotherapist until qualification.

Why should our clients choose you?

I offer a unique opportunity to access this kind of psychotherapy at an affordable fee. In-depth therapy like this is often life changing. Although a trainee, I bring years of experience of working in the community as a doctor to the work as well as my continuing intensive training in psychotherapy.
Although people often come once a week for therapy, two or three times weekly therapy is also available and such intensive support can lead to unexpected and welcome change.
I am a warm and empathic person keen to assist others to address their difficulties and to flourish as a result.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I work from the Meridian Centre in Billesley, south Birmingham. There is a Covid policy in place adhered to by all who work in this building
