I am a Clinical Psychologist (trained for 7 years in a range of therapeutic approaches) who has specialised in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have 8 years experience with over 200 people dealing with a range of anxiety and mood-related problems. OCD is a problem I have particular expertise with. I use approaches and techniques that are known to work, intelligently adapted to suit your needs. I help people make changes in their lives, such as feeling motivated to, and able to enjoy, work, socialising and relationships. I specialise in treatment sessions of different lengths (from the standard 55 minutes up to 3 hours). Longer sessions allow you to talk, be understood and helped to move towards solutions at a faster pace. This results in needing fewer sessions overall, which can be more easily fitted around the demands of your life. This will be good for you if you don’t want to take time off work, would like to see results quickly, and would like the option of flexible frequency of attendance without sacrificing effectiveness. You may even find meeting just once to be sufficient. I have also specialised in Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). CFT will be good for you if you struggle with feelings of shame, inadequacy, self-criticism or generally just not being able to engage with life fully. If you have had CBT before and found that it made sense but did not always help you ‘feel’ differently (even if it helped you ‘think’ about things differently), CFT can provide the missing element to help you move forward. Whatever the session length, my approach to therapy is an active one. Like all therapists, I listen and understand in a warm, professional way. Thanks to my training and knowledge, I will also teach you new ideas, exercises and skills to help you challenge and overcome your difficulties. These can include trying out new ways of thinking, behaving, managing emotions, relating to others, and dealing with stress. My website contains testimonials from previous clients.

It's not easy to admit you are suffering with anxiety, or depression and you are struggling to cope. Choosing the right counsellor is the first, and possibly, the most difficult step in starting to help yourself. The fact you are looking for help is a positive move towards change and feeling better. You are not alone, in everyday life people are presented with problems and issues which, at times, seem so difficult to deal with. The advice of friends and family is, perhaps not helping, and can sometimes make us feel more anxious or depressed. So what to do? I offer a warm, patient and open approach to counselling, working at a pace which will be tailored to your requirements. Throughout our sessions you will learn more about who you are, what you want from life, what you are like in relationship with others, and how to use all of this to move your life forward. I have a practice room in Norwich city centre and in the quiet village of Swardeston which is just south of Norwich. I work as an Integrative Counsellor. This means I undertook specialist training drawing together concepts and theories from the three main schools of thought (Humanistic, Analytic and Cognitive Behavioural) to create a blend of understanding about the formation of self. My work is based on the belief in the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I consider the development of self in relationship with others as a continually evolving process. Therefore, the relationship we build as client and counsellor is the foundation of our work together. Discovering your inner strengths and resources will enable you to gain a better understanding of those aspects of your life which may be affecting you. I will not judge you nor will I give you advice. I am here to listen fully to what you wish to talk about. I am not the expert on you, you are, and I am here to learn what it is like in your world, to understand what problems or fears you may be facing, and in doing so, this may enable you to learn more about how you are in your world through my reflections, comments or queries. I will provide a confidential, safe setting which will enable you to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. This could lead to new insight and self-awareness which in turn, may bring about change in you and your surrounding world. My previous experience was working in the 4C's centre in Wymondham until it's closure and subsequently, in Norwich and Central Norfolk MIND. I currently work for another charity in the centre of Norwich. Through this work I have become experienced in working with clients with anxiety, depression, suffering domestic abuse, bereavement, relationship issues, personality disorders and other issues. The first session will be half price (£20) to give you an opportunity to explore if you feel able to work with me, it will also give you the space to begin speaking of things you wish to change or things you are unsure of, things which may be causing you anxiety. The following sessions give you the freedom to further scrutinize these issues in non-oppressive environment.
