How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?

I will sit down with clients and get to know their exercise history and current situation. I will go through a questionnaire which includes exercise and nutrition related questions which will help me understand their needs and how we can make the necessary changes. A food diary will be provided so I can understand their eating habits and how to improve them. I will go through everything with a fine tooth comb and tailor the clients workouts to cover cardiovascular work and weight training.

What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?

The 3x Mr Olympia winner Frank Zane once said, "Continuity is how you build a physique." He is absolutely right, there are no secrets to this endeavour it takes time. A balanced combination of cardio and weight lifting will help build the body but as the cliche goes: "You can't out train a bad diet." You see a lot of diets out there such as juice, paleo, atkins etc but in the long term they are not sustainable. The only diet you need is a 'healthy balanced diet'.

In order to achieve your dream body you need to have discipline and be committed to the cause. Your bad habits need to change and you have to put effort into it. There will be ups and downs as with everything in life. The attitude I want to instil in people is that if you work hard enough and are dedicated, your health and fitness goals are achievable.

What do you love most about your job?

I love to meet new people and build relationships with them. It also gives me the opportunity to learn new things and work with people who have different needs which I will always strive to meet. I had a personal trainer in the past and I find that you maintain a friendship that goes beyond training. You become a counsellor, a confidante as a PT which makes the bond that extra bit meaningful.

My motivation to get involved in the fitness industry was to help people. There is a major obesity and body image crisis in our country and from my previous work experience placement at my local leisure centre, I got to know people, both young and old trying to improve their health which is something I relate to and appreciate. The most rewarding part of this job is to see people get healthier and more confident in themselves. We all need a bit of confidence and fitness can give you that in abundance.

What inspired you to start your own business?

While on my Level 3 Personal Training course I was already a member of my local gym in Wilmslow. At the close of the year, my membership was soon to run out and I had planned to try another gym as I fancied a change of scenery. After trying another local facility I was disappointed at the lack of organistion of the gym floor and the general atmosphere.

It didn’t meet my expectations at all. I thought to myself, how can someone join a gym with the aim of getting in shape, if they have no idea what they're doing there? That’s when I came to the following conclusion: If I managed to get in shape at home with the most basic of equipment why can’t other people too? Memberships are also far too expensive and people who are new to fitness don't always have the time to go to the gym and their money is evidently wasted.

I have trained in quite a few gyms and sometimes the expense just isn't worth it and you'd be better off paying as you go. The fitness industry has made the whole idea of getting in shape over-complicated when it is a whole lot simpler than it is made out to be. I'm here to change that.

Why should our clients choose you?

I feel clients should choose me because I am honest about the fitness industry and I know how to teach exercise correctly. I see other PT's all the time doing things with clients that aren't giving them the benefits, some of the activities they have people doing are actually quite harmful. Poor quality training can actually lead to problems later in life so if you want good quality information, come to me. I believe in giving my clients value for money by ensuring that their workouts are effective and to install the belief that they can achieve their goals.

Supplements are also a big talking point, particularly protein powders, and people spend a lot of money on them believing that they help. In reality a number of products have actually been found to contain banned substances including meth-amphetamine in some pre-workout supplements. The risk to your health and the cost of such items should never enter into it, exercise and a healthy diet is all you need.
