I have I recently completed my BA Hons in in performance studies gaining a 1st with Wolverhampton University I previously Studied with The Institute and Trinity College of Music and Drama I am a Musician / Music Teacher and have been playing guitar and teaching for over 25 years. I have taught in some of the top schools in London, before moving to Devon, and have had more than 70 pupils a week on my teaching schedule. I am Fully DBS checked and have great references. I have created a purpose-built guitar/vocal teaching studio that is dedicated to capturing a relaxed and encouraging learning space and have very satisfied students from all abilities and all from walks of life. I've played at weddings, festivals, pubs, clubs, has been called in for SESSION gigs and community events in bands and plays solo sets. I understand the steps that musicians need to take to become better musicians. I teach Electric , Classical and Acoustic guitar/ Bass and Vocals in a way that that means you can enjoy music more and grow a musician whatever level you are currently at. " I can teach Lead and rhythm guitar and also solo fingerstyle guitar in any genre, how to work with a looper and create backing tracks from your chosen software." I am a Music Teacher, playing guitar and teaching for over 25 years. I teach Lead and rhythm guitar, singer songwriter, classical and also solo fingerstyle guitar in any genre.( also exploring how to work with a looper). I also teach uke to grade 5. I have studied with Tolis Zaharliaras, Misha Nickolik (both The Institute London) Classical guitar Carlos Bonnel Professor Royal Northern College of Music. Have taken Master Classes with Electric Guitarists : Steve Via/ Jamie Humphries/ Dave Kilminster /Tolis Zaharliaras Acoustic : Eric Rouche John Etheridge/ Gorden Giltrapp/ Classical : Ray Burley/John Mills. I have taught in some of the top schools in London, ( including ex/ head of guitar department at Forest School, Snaresbrook, London.) before moving to Devon, and have had more than 70 pupils each week on my teaching schedule. I have taught rock bands ( chords/ tab ) and classical ensembles (notation ) I am an experienced guitarist and have learnt from many great teachers in the past. I have studied theory books and have acquired a huge amount of theoretical information about harmony, rhythm, etc. The lesson I learned was that being a great musician has nothing to do with theory. So i teach an understanding that melody is king and that you can create this immediately from the sounds inside your head on your guitar/uke/bass as your skills improve. This is great fun! I study the music that interests pupils and look to make this music their own. I can teach how to read tab or music notation (from scratch) or rhythm and chords. I also explain the need to work on chord shapes, scales and phrases as this is all useful when writing songs or playing covers of any Genre. I give pupils the option of studying towards grades with Trinity Rock n Pop, Rock school or RGT. I delve as far into theory as the pupil wishes. It is important to understand theory, however focusing on theory alone will not make you a great musician, so there are lots of practical playing opportunities. Please get in touch for an informal assessment lesson. I look forwards to working with you. Regards . David
