Big design for 'small businesses'. Small business or start-up? I specialise in working closely with local, independent businesses to develop and deliver full branding and to translate your business into an online environment. Working closely with small local businesses and start-ups ensures a uniquely bespoke, hands-on design service.

Describe your creative process.

The initial stage involves meeting with you (either in person or via Skype) to get a clear idea of what your businesses is about; including what product/service you provide, your ethos, visual style and target audience. A clear understanding of this ensures that any design assets reflect your brand, and tell your unique story.

I would then create three design concepts based on this initial discussion and send these to you for consideration. Ideally, we would then meet a second time to discuss the pros and cons of each, before I revisit and develop one (or a combination) of these three concepts, depending on which you feel best represents your vision.

For me, a large part of the creative process is receiving client feedback along the way and working with you to mould and develop the final design as the project progresses. Once a final design has been delivered, the price includes up to three amendments to ensure you are happy with the final design.

What information do you need from a client before you can start work?

1. What product/service does your company provide?
2. What are your unique selling points?
3. What is your companies ethos? (What are your beliefs?)
4. What does your company aim to achieve?
5. What is your target audience?
6. What is the voice/tone of your company?
7. Sum up your company in one sentence. (If you're having trouble with this, I can provide a branding workshop that can help)

What do you love most about your job?

The two things I am most passionate about are good design, and a good story. Every company has a story, and effective branding tells this well, clearly, and with character.

I absolutely love working closely with local businesses to see their branding visions realised, and equally thrive on the challenge of refreshing or revamping a pre-existing brand.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have five years experience working freelance on branding and website design, and for the past year and a half have been working and further developing my skills in digital marketing. I have set up my own company so that I can take on freelance design work.

I absolutely love my job in digital marketing and feel that this, coupled with my passion for branding, is a brilliant combination for taking on freelance design projects, helping small businesses and start-ups realise their vision.

Why should our clients choose you?

If you're looking for attention to detail, passion and enthusiasm then I think we'll get on well!

My expertise in design softwares are self-taught – in high school I developed a love of photography and taught myself Photoshop so I could edit my own pictures. Eight years later and I have expanded these skills to include numerous other softwares such as InDesign, Illustrator and Premier Pro, to name a few... my love of design brought me to Edinburgh College of Art where I gained a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design.

But aside from the technical skills, which are a given, I'm just completely passionate about working closely with local businesses to see their creative vision realised: my job as a graphic designer is to package up your business in a neat visual bundle and present it to your customers in a way that allows it to shine to its absolute full potential.
