How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?

If you require only internal work done to your garage, such as converting it to a living space, you do not require planning permission for this.
Some garages however cannot be converted if they are too old and badly built or even asbestos ridden. Therefore an assessment needs to be conducted on the soundness of the foundations, roof and walls.
You can get some advice from the Building Control department of your local council.

Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?

When a garage is fit for conversion you still need to check the floor levels. Usually you will need to raise/lower floors and or ceilings to make it flow with the rest of your house.

For it to be habitable there also needs to be insulation, heating, lighting and plumbing all around.

If there is a boiler or electricity meter, you need to think whether you want these moved. Moving these can add thousands of pounds to the cost of the conversion and it is usually recommended to box them in wooden units.

What do you love most about your job?

The satisfaction of a client when they see the new changes to their property.

What inspired you to start your own business?

We believe in high quality finishing and a lot of construction cow-boys out there set the foundations, comply with the basic regulations and then give up on the finishing and the finishing is what everyone else sees, which we believe is an important element. That's why Mason & Stone was born, to give you an aesthetically pleasing product.

Why should our clients choose you?

Firstly we are a family operated company, which gives you more personal to your needs experience.

Our business conduct is very transparent, you will be given the costs first hand.

We also have trade agreements in place so that you do not pay retail prices for the supply of materials, which can save you a huge deal.

We have our own Architectural Technologist who will transfer your visions into drawings. Keeping everything in-house will guarantee a smooth transition and completion of the work. However if you do have your own architect that you would like to use, we are completely fine with that and will work with them to achieve your vision.
