I set this up in the summer of 1977, My first booking was for factory workers of Performance Plastics, Bacup Lancashire and the surrounding neighbourhood, set in their canteen to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. My next-door neighbour was a manager there which is how I got the gig! I started out with a set of Fal twin decks bought from my mum’s catalogue, one light, a sign and a box of records and 20th Century Sounds was born! 30plus years and thousands of gigs later we’re still going strong minus the long hair and plus a few extra pounds. The equipment’s changed a bit too – gone are the twin decks and singles and in are CDs, mp3s, mixers, loads of lights and lasers and miles of cables etc.! – still, you get the picture. I am a very up beat kind of DJ in that I like to entertain and provide value for money, emphasis is on the people attending an event to go away satisfied and that they have had a good time. I am also a local Radio Presenter on Canalside Radio 102.8fm which is a Community station here in Macclesfield. I tend to provide value for money and try not to over charge to an excess, my prices can be negotiated dependent upon the event, the price includes: 1. Set up a Track List for the event (this can take upward of two hours) 2. Setting the equipment up (1-1.5hrs) 3. Breaking down (40mins) 4. The gig (approx. 4-5hrs) 5. Travelling to and from the event. I will play all genres as long as I have been provided with the right information from you the customer, I will also except track list of preferred songs. I have a full light show, some will say 'blinding' but I have decreased the 'LEDs' recently (hahaha), I have my own DJ Booth as well as wireless microphones for the speeches. My speakers have 800watts in each speaker which will deafen a small pub/club (but I do try to keep the sound within limits of the audience and their age). I have added the Karaoke recently and this is always being updated, I do local Karaoke events in Macclesfield and I have four pubs on my books for regular events such as Northern Soul & Motown Nights, Birthday Parties, Private Parties and Weddings, 80/90's. I have been DJ ing for 6 years. With access to a range of my own sound equipment, I can use the speakers most suited to the job in hand. Generally I use an RCF system of 3.5K, but for smaller events , an HK 1.5K system. For lighting, I generally bring some LED lights to place in the corners of the room which immediately colour the room or space to give atmosphere and create a special feeling. Then a couple of colour-changing units, and a small laser. The result elevates any space to new heights. As Southside PAs I am a sound engineer, hiring and operating PA equipment and lights for over 20 years. The work initially focused on bands, but as I became more experienced the type of work diversified. Now I still engineer music events, but also speeches and announcements and every kind of event requiring sound reinforcement. I have been i/c sound on the main stage at the Manchester Jazz Festival in Albert Square, for the past 7 years and counting.
