Guitar Tuition BrightonCertificate of Excellence 2015
John B Kent offers Guitar and Bass Guitar lessons in Rock, Pop, Blues & Indie teaching students of all ages. John provides a song based approach to lessons introducing music theory where appropriate. Students choose the songs they want to learn making lessons enjoyable and easy! 25 Years Experience Playing & Teaching Guitar & Bass Guitar 8 Years Full Time Teaching Practice Member of Registry of Guitar Tutors Enhanced CRB Disclosure Fully Insured John B Kent has played Guitar and Bass Guitar for around 25 years. During that time he has played hundreds of live shows, played on many recordings and completed courses in Graded Music Theory. John taught Guitar and Bass Guitar on a part time basis until 2008 and since then has taught privately on a full time basis for the past 8 years. John says: "My mission is to make learning Guitar and Bass Guitar easier and more accessible by using a less academic approach than a school or college. I want students to have a say in their lessons by choosing the songs they want to learn and most importantly ENJOY lessons and be INSPIRED to play without the worry of 'Tests' or 'Assessments'. I introduce Music Theory and exercises where appropriate and always try to create a context for the subjects I am teaching. I strive to create a balance by having a structured but relaxed approach. I believe this helps students to acquire a greater understanding without pressure. I use a Weekly Guidance sheet the student has from the first lesson where I write comments regarding their practise for the week. I also have a Student Review system that I present when required that provides the student with a list of subjects learned over the course of their lessons. We review this together and it acts as a marker to see how many lessons they have attended and how much they have learned since they started playing their instrument." Music Exams In most cases it is students still at school that will take music exams which are organised by the music department of their institution. If students require extra tuition outside the school or college environment to assist with their exams please let me know.
