I had always believed that therapy was for someone else, and certainly not me as I felt I had it all together.
I met Gary by chance and after the first session, I realised that something was not right with my life. The exterior was fine, but deep within, something was missing. Gary helped me to see that there was still a little girl inside me crying out.
As I journeyed with Gary, he helped me to identify that I was living with childhood trauma and I was also in emotional abusive relationship/s.
On the outside, everything was normal and looked almost perfect, but this was because I have a high tolerance level, and I am also not an argumentative person, so when issues arose, I kept quiet. Gary helped me to see that this was not acceptable or indeed, normal.
During one of the sessions, he gave me what I thought was simple advise. He said, “use your voice”. That simple statement propelled me into the confident person that I am today. I have been able to use my voice to politely address unacceptable behaviours, toxic relationships, put firm boundaries in place and speak my truth. I also realised that therapy was not just for me, but it helped me to deal with the people in my life who also need therapy, but refuse to get it.
Whilst Gary is very experienced and a professional at the highest level, the most important thing for me was trust. At no time did I feel I could not be transparent or feel judged by him. He is also naturally a warm and genuinely caring person which made it easier for me to share my personal issues.
Due to Gary’s wide knowledge and experience, he also counselled my children. He managed professional boundaries and confidentiality, which we all appreciated. Apart from the difficult conversations, we laughed a lot, something which I had forgotten to do or had not done in a long time.
I highly recommend Gary. Personally, I am in a much better place, and my relationships, including with my children are by far better.
I never thought I would say this, but
If you would like to live a holistic, “dare to be you” life, I would recommend therapy, especially with Gary. He is a committed professional, who is willing to stand in the GAP for you whilst you journey through your change!

As a first timer to therapy I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the time i would spend with Daniel. Dealing with the challenges of a recent divorce and a new relationship Daniel really helped me to come to terms with the decisions I have made regarding my divorce. We didn’t have many sessions only due to personal circumstances but it was time we’ll spent. I feel more assured and confident to deal with the challenges that present themselves and I am thankful to Daniel for that!

Craig Coventry MBACP (reg.), MA, BSC. Professional and confidential counselling, psychotherapy, trauma therapy and EMDR practitioner in Guilford and Woking. My approach to counselling and psychotherapy aims to enable you to explore and get in touch with your experiences on an emotional, psychological and physical level. I see therapy as a journey of self-exploration and my role is to be with on your journey and to help deepen the process where possible. When I am with clients, I work with them on an individual basis, viewing them as unique human beings and try to meet the 'person behind the symptoms'. I find this to be extremely beneficial for clients, especially those who have been to other services and feel they have not been heard or felt that they were not valued as people but seen as symptoms to be reduced or in someway faulty that needed to be fixed- unfortunately there are many who feel this way. In addition to my more generic counselling practice, I have particular interests in working with Psychological Trauma. Psychological Trauma can be caused by a range of situations such as physical or sexual abuse, neglect, bullying or manipulation, whether regular or one off events such as accidents. There are many situations that can cause individuals to elicit a traumatic stress response leaving people in high states of arousal and anxiety. What is considered a 'Trauma' not the event per se but rather the individuals response. the more overwhelmed the individual felt at the time, the more helpless they felt at the time increases the likely hood of eliciting a traumatic response. Also, where the trauma is inflicted by someone in a trusted position in the person's life, a 'betrayal trauma', the complexity of the trauma can be increased. In short, trauma symptoms commonly include: intrusion (dreams, flash backs, images of the past, feeling like the past is still happening), hypervigilance (being on high alert, anxiety) and constriction (numbing, block/avoiding, detachment and dissociation ).
There are many things I can put here. But the main things I love about this work are being able to see people heal, seeing people go from feeling hopeless to confidence and able to choose their own directions and find autonomy. To find acceptance of situations, and generally being happier and healthier people. Being invited into to people's inner world is a privilege.
There are services which people have found extremely beneficial. However, it is well known in the profession that some agencies and government funded treatments often are restricted in what they can offer, both in terms of amount of time people can spend in therapy and the actual services offered. I find it more fulfilling to work for clients, not being restricted to time limitations. I felt horrible at times working in an agency when clients came to see me who needed long-term work, and the agency could only offer short-term. So, I decided that I did not train for 6 years at university, costing about £60k in tuition fees, to only do half a job for my clients. So I work privately where time limitations are not pushed upon me from above and I can give my clients the time that they need.
It is important for clients to choose the right therapist for them. I am not going to write here trying to convince you to work with me. I would rather simply say: "If you believe what I offer would be beneficial for you, then I may be an option and would be happy to discuss. If not, then choose the therapist that seems right for you and I wish you all the best in this often scary but worthwhile journey".
