As a therapist I understand I am in an extremely privileged position. I sit opposite clients when they are experiencing, at times, painful truths, deep sadness or enlightening brake through moments. The sharing can be deeply moving for both of us but I am there not to buckle under the weight of any emotional fall out but to keep it steady and safe as we explore how to mindfully process what surfaces.
I have been a counsellor for mental health charities, supported teams of psychiatrists and continue to work alongside health insurance companies. However, my greatest joy has always been that gained from my private practice. The inspiration for finally going out on my own was having a therapy room whereby I did not have to follow a medical model, could set up the environment more comfortably and having the flexibilty to specialise in ways that suited my personality.
