Dean Sherwood Films

Brought up with close family connections to Elton John it's not very surprising Dean has ended up working predominantly in the music industry. A london based filmmaker hungry to produce visually striking pieces whether it's an award winning wedding film or a multi location montage style commercial advert. As a filmmaker Dean has directed, filmed and edited much of his work giving him a very strong work ethic and understanding of what it takes to get a project completed. With that strong understanding of the filmmaking process and a passion for the technical aspects, he’s found himself drawn to beautiful imagery and fast-paced modern camerawork. He always loves to experiment and challenge himself with each video that he undertakes. Dean constantly escapes being pigeon-holed, as he has mastered a wide range of genres – from gritty documentary music work to narrative storytelling and visually striking cinematic work right out to multi-camera large scale event live streams. When it comes to his commercial work he is able to adapt a complex story to short formats while concentrating on authentic and intimate character performances. That being said, he can also just make something that may seem relatively boring look refreshingly appealing to the viewer.

What do you love most about your job?

Getting to meet and work with people! I just love creating memories in the best light I can find :)

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was working at an agency where alongside photographing amazing projects for clients like Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith, I was also working on projects I didn't enjoy as much. Going 'solo' enabled me to concentrate on working in the areas I love.

Why should our clients choose you?

Most frequently clients say I'm a relaxing influence and that my professionalism always shines through. I'd like to say I have a unique documentary style. I like to let events unfold in front of me without directing. A lot of my video work, say for example shooting a wedding, I'm a 'participant' in the event. I'm shooting from the outside in. Stealing a shot rather than making a shot I guess :) Of course, when Direction is needed I'll step in, but that's rare and only if I think it's absolutely worth it.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. I am a very experienced editor and during lockdown conducted a few photoshoots via Livestream - challenging but fun! I'm also available for mentorships which are great fun, I've had a lot of experience, travelled a lot and love to pass on anything I've learned.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Well, my natural style of documenting rather than directing really helps! Aside from that, I'm churning through masks, anti-bacterial hand sanitizers, and lateral flow tests! Also, at an extra cost to my business, I am still refraining from using any public transport, both on shoot days and just in general travel.
