Dave Baum

I can work with multiple cameras (I own a Sony FX6, an FX3 and a CAA registered drone); I use Adobe editing software for both motion graphics and video. I can provide all kit for multi camera 4K shoots, and I'm happy operating in high pressure environments. I have lots of experience around motorsports and race circuits, but that's not all I do. These environments are often high stakes, and can be dangerous. Working there makes it easier to operate confidently under pressure in almost any other environment. Slow motion capabilities with the kit I have is 120fps at 4K, or 200fps in HD. I have my own award-winning feature doc on Amazon Prime, but also create lots of shorter stuff on YouTube or for event displays for my clients. I'm flexible, friendly and professional. I believe in what I do and I'll deliver a top job for you with zero hassle. A typical rate is approx £400 p/d depending on kit required and length of booking.

What do you love most about your job?

I have to admit, I love playing with camera gear! I recently heard a well known musician describe a serious condition he had - "gear acquisition syndrome". I can relate to that. But I love finding new tools to work with and I really enjoy the variety of environments and crafts I get to witness. Learning about these environments and pursuits, and interacting with participants are some of the highlights for me.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I had an opportunity to work on an exciting project many years ago that was a risk, but I left a full time job to pursue it. Being self employed can be tough, there is not much by way of a safety net, but this creates an importance around doing a good job, with the idea being that a job well done will hopefully lead to more work in that area.

Why should our clients choose you?

I am flexible in my approach and also in my expertise; for example I have shot, edited and directed my own feature documentary that won awards at festivals around the world, and was an absolutely huge personal challenge to put together. But the lessons learned in that are filtering down to shorter projects, such as how to quickly communicate a complex story. I understand the difference in styles for different platforms and I am happy to work in both narrative and promo-based edits. I also have a lot of experience with 2D motion graphics in After Effects, so can use that to add slick and sympathetic graphic design to any video or motion projects.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I rent an office in Walthamstow which is where I usually edit from, and in that case I deliver all files online from here. Of course for shooting I can be anywhere in the country, and I do have a good MacBook Pro for any onsite editing aswell. I'm happy to do either.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Thankfully the worst of this appears to be behind us now, but I would be happy to provide negative tests before joining any clients in person for a shoot if they wish, or in the case of working closely with others on an edit.
