Hello. I'm a qualified integrative therapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), working in private practice in central London and Queen's Park. Prior to setting up my private practice I have worked in a GP practice and a university counselling service. There is a growing awareness of the need to support our mental wellbeing. Squashing down our uncomfortable feelings and fears usually only provides temporary relief and while confronting your true feelings is not always an easy process, embarking on therapy can be a transformative experience. Being an integrative counsellor means I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches which I draw upon to find the most appropriate way to work with you. I offer both short term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy. My intergrative approach incorporates psychodynamic, humanistic, body psychotherapy, attachment theory and contemporary relational psychotherapy models. I have experience in treating a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addiction, panic attacks, sexual abuse, low self-esteem, identity issues, self harm and eating disorders.
New Steps Therapy
I specialise in treating self-esteem issues, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, exam nerves, blushing, stress and habits in adults and children. I am also particularly interested in relationship issues and increasing motivation. I combine hypnotherapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques in order to offer you or your child a thorough and well-rounded approach to therapy. CBT is a mode of therapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns in order to eliminate unwanted behaviours. This natural and effective combination therefore allows your issue to be addressed at the unconscious level, identifying and solving the cause and so reliving the symptoms; whilst at the same time enabling you to adjust your conscious thought patterns and resulting behaviours. This combination allows me to treat a vast range of issues in anyone aged 5 and over. I am also able to treat individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and a range cognitive disabilities. I provide a friendly, caring, confidential service in a relaxed environment to help you overcome the issues that are standing in your way. I can help you or your child get rid of negative emotions, behaviours, habits and thought patterns in a gentle, enjoyable and long-lasting way. Hypnotherapy for Children It is frequently very difficult for children to put what they are experiencing into words as they often don't have the experience, confidence or vocabulary to do so. Hypnotherapy is an ideal way of helping children because they can be treated without the need to extensively talk through what they are going through unless they want to. Children are often much easier patients than adults because their minds are far more open and accepting of new experiences. They have far more active and vivid imaginations which they use every day to help them learn about the world. This means they generally find the visualisation involved in hypnotherapy very easy and enjoyable. Also, their minds have not been conditioned in the same way as adults, that is they do not think about reacting in a way that others find acceptable. As adults we have been reacting and behaving in ways that fit with our belief system about ourselves and the world for many years. These behaviours have therefore become a part of us. For children these belief systems (both positive and negative) and thier resulting behaviours are still forming. It is therefore far easier to change negative or unhelpful beliefs. As a result positive changes occur far more quickly when working with children.
