Abbey Pet Care

‘21 Certificate of Excellence

Abbey Pet Care is based in Abbeydale in Gloucester and offers home visits and small animal boarding. Please note that visits and sitting and boarding services are not offered for dogs. Also I am currently full for dog walking. Home visits can be once or twice per day and are available to all small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs as well as cats. Most cats prefer to stay in their own environment if their owners are away rather than going to a cattery. Visits would consist of feeding/fresh water/litter tray cleaning and plenty of fussing! If you have a small animal such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, tortoises etc, we also offer a boarding service. Your pets can be kept in single length or double length hutches and during the warmer months, rabbits and guinea pigs can go outside and spend the day in our runs on the lawn. They will provided with Burgess nuggets, fresh veg and hay daily.

What do you love most about your job?

I love being around animals whether pets or wildlife. My own pets have included a dog, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, ferrets and fish! I love being able to get out in the fresh air, walking dogs and having fun with them. During COVID times, whilst things have been quiet, I have been using my spare time to help out a local wildlife hospital which I have also been thoroughly enjoying.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have wanted to work with animals since I can remember but life never really turned out that way. However, upon turning 40 I decided to take the plunge and have never looked back.

Why should our clients choose you?

Compared to a lot of other dog walkers, I specialise in 1 to 1 walks. Many owners prefer this service as they know that their dog is getting 100% of my attention. This does not take away the chance for a run in the park with other dogs if they enjoy being sociable.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Currently with dog walks, I am using my own lead and making sure I use plenty of hand sanitiser to help keep both myself and my customers safe.
As far as boarding small animals is concerned, drop off and collections are at the door and again hand sanitiser is being used.
