Small Steps Counselling

Alone, terrified, hopeless, depressed, unmotivated, unlovable, sick with worry – HUMAN. At some point, we will all feel this way. But we get stuck and fail to realise in the depths of despair that all we really need to do is to take one small step. I am Daniel Dickson, a qualified Cognitive-behavioural therapist and graduate of The Centre of Therapy and Counselling Studies in Glasgow with a SCOTACS Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork: A CBT Approach. I am a member of the BACP and BABCP and hold professional indemnity insurance. For 2 years, I have been providing one-to-one cognitive-behavioural therapy and psychoeducational groups for a range of issues and disorders, particularly with feelings of depression and anxiety and have a background in providing therapeutic support to alcohol and drug users. My strengths lie in my empathy and gentleness and reading between the lines in what I am being told. First and foremost, I believe in connecting with my clients through openness and genuineness without judgement. I want to sit with you, as you are and with patience and kindness reflect back to you what I observe and learn from you as you speak. I will teach you tools and techniques and provide education to help you better understand yourself and grow into the person you want to become. I will encourage and support you with each step you take until we agree that you are ready to continue your self-work without my support. Cost per 50-minute session is £40 (concessions available) and usually held weekly online over Zoom. What do you love most about your job?

For years I knew that I was someone who had to have career helping others. It is just my nature. I always had an interest in psychology and I was often the person others would turn to for support.

What I love most is that I am living my dream job! I get to help others but still make money doing what I love. I feel incredibly privileged to be part of a profession that helps to heal and empower the lives of others. Because persuing this job did that for me. It's my true purpose in life.

What inspired you to start your own business?

As I was training to become a therapist, I never really envisaged an NHS job or working for an organisation. I am a very self-reliant person and I loved the idea of managing myself and organising my day to day and the business side of things. Some people see that as a hassle but I see it as an exciting challenge. And I love it.

Why should our clients choose you?

Simply because I want to help and I am passionate about the work I do. I understand that a paying client deserves the best from me and I am a self reflective practitioner who is always improving. I am client orientated and I truly want to see you reach your goals and your highest potential because I believe it's possible. I know that you're worthy of change even if you don't right now.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, online and remote therapy is done through Zoom or over the phone.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

All of my counselling work has moved online via Zoom. I also offer telephone therapy for the less technically inclined.
