What do you love most about your job?

Helping people to overcome problems is immensely rewarding. It is also just as enjoyable to get to meet such a variety of people and genuinely get to know them, it is a privilege you don't get in many professions.

What inspired you to start your own business?

You don't become a hypnotherapist for fame or riches (I've been doing it for 16 years now and can assure you this is definitely the case) you do it because you feel the desire to help people on a deeper, more personal level than any other profession would allow. Hypnotherapy is great because it allows you to get to know people and then help them then and there.

Why should our clients choose you?

I'm one of Birmingham's most well trained, safe and experienced hypnotherapists, is the short answer to this question, but there is a longer answer which goes something like this (be warned it really is just a longer version of the short version); I trained with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH) over 16 years ago, they liked me so took me on as the youngest centre manager and lecturer in the organisations history (founded 1984), whilst I treated people for my main living. The combination of treating and teaching is vital for the development of a good therapists because you constantly re-examine and get new perspectives upon the core concepts and you never forget the basics. In addition to this the need to develop professionally has led me to train in a variety of additional techniques (Timeline therapy, Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment therapy to give a few examples) and deeper knowledge of certain conditions (IBS, Psychosexual problems and Anxiety for example). I have a high degree of standing within my profession and have lectured and taught at medical school, universities, medical conferences and hospitals around the world, but I am especially proud to lecture at the University of Birmingham medical school to the medical students. I founded the annual 'Evidence based practice in Clinical Hypnotherapy' Conference for the promotion of 'best practice' and the use of 'Best evidence' in hypnotherapy.

This will vary according to the level of experience and training that the hypnotherapist holds.

Your professional hypnotherapist will be able to advise you on the full range of therapies available and will be able to help you select the best one to suit your needs. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have. Use Bark to get free quotes and find a trusted hypnotherapist today.

Firstly, you'll have a conversation with your therapist to discuss what you hope to achieve and agree on what methods your therapist will use. Afterwards, the hypnotherapist may lead you into a deeply relaxed state using agreed methods to help you towards your goals. For example, suggesting that you don't want to carry out a certain habit gradually bring you out of the trance.

You are fully in control when under hypnosis and don't have to take on the therapist's suggestions if you don't want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state. Most people expect to be put to sleep or to forget what happened afterwards but the opposite is true. You're fully aware the whole time of what is happening.

This is dependent on both your hypnotherapist and your circumstances. One-off services such as smoking cessation or gastric band hypnotherapy can last around two hours, while a general hypnotherapy session will usually take about an hour.

The duration of therapy will really be dependent on your circumstances and issues. Some people may require a longer-term approach with regular weekly sessions. Your hypnotherapist will let you know how many sessions they feel you might need when you start therapy and will be flexible when it comes to decreasing or extending the number of sessions according to your progress and needs.

There are currently no guidelines in place stipulating the training and qualifications a hypnotherapist must have in order to practice. Industry guidelines recommend that individuals should have completed at least an appropriate diploma or have completed a course that involved a minimum of 450 learning hours, of which 120 hours must have been face-to-face.

You may also want to ask for testimonials of their recent work. You could also look at their profile page on Bark and Bark can show you reviews from past customers who have used their hypnotherapy services.

Hypnotherapy has repeatedly and consistently helped patients with a whole host of issues. It can help with anxiety, depression, anxiety, PTSD, obesity, addictions, fear of flying, public speaking, stopping smoking, insomnia, weight loss amongst others. When combined with methods such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), valuable healing work can begin as quickly as one or two sessions.

You might be surprised to hear that hypnotherapy can be delivered remotely over the phone, through an online video chat platform, or with pre-recorded sessions sent by email.
