About

No matter how simple or how complex we can find an affordable, bespoke and easily managed solution to your web site requirements.

Not every site needs a database back-end but if you need e-commerce, or complex data filtering we can build systems with easy front-end 'wizards' that make adding or altering data a snip.

We are very pleased with the site. We wanted something simple yet effective but with all the right ‘bells and whistles’ to attract Google’s eye and bring us more bookings. Because we are so much more than ‘just’ musicians we needed our story told with clarity - The Works did the job extremely well “ Jane Booth https://www.denote.org.uk More...

“Initially I really didn’t enjoy the process at all. I grumpily resisted the idea that I needed a site at all as all my business is via recommendations and networking. However Tony dragged me into a new look and actually made me think quite hard about how I wanted to position myself. In the end I must reluctantly admit Tony knew what he was doing and I like my new site very much… as long as I never have to talk about it again!” Carol Smith More...

Q&As

Our core belief is that web design is not only about design. Or if it is then the word 'design' is a catchall for information architecture, relevant content, captivating copy, marketing, positioning, search engine presence, calls to action, ease of navigation, exemplary coding and technical standards and the ease of site updates for a client managed site. And design, because yes, 'pretty' matters and fonts and colours too.

What is it for? From that one question everything else flows. If you can't answer that then neither can I. But if you want my help to understand what it could be for, I can do that. After that when do you want it? And how much (or little!!) do you want to pay?

Turning that scary blank piece of 'paper' into a web design. At the beginning of every project I have to channel my fear of failure and remember my experience of success.

When I have understood the client's needs, when I have a technically resolved site with good design and function I am until the next job complete focused on being the best designer I can be

Truthfully? I was kicked out of work and needed to regroup. My life had been in advertising and it wasn't working for me, too many constraints, too many bosses. I wanted something small that I could control for the whole process. Web design suited my skills and experience and suits my somewhat solitary and obsessive nature.

I enjoy what I do and aim to be very good at it. I have the skill set to produce just about any kind of web site required. From a simple business that needs not much more than an online brochure through to an e-commerce site.

Additionally I can design bespoke database solutions for presenting complex information. I know the value of good copy not only as an aid to generating sales or leads but as an necessary component of feeding the demands of a constantly changing search engine algorithm. And finally I need to be at the top of our game when it comes to good code writing and ensuring sites are safe, protected and work across all browsers and devices.

Services

People often say about all kinds of things 'It isn't rocket science' This is true for web design. Can you do what I do? Sure, if you have reasonable computer skills and can tell the difference between blue and a duck you can easily dispense with a professional. This will cost a lot less money but take a lot more time, and probably you'll make compromises on design and perhaps utility. Can I pull my own teeth out? I guess so if I had to but I 'd much rather use a dentist!

I have no difficulty in recommending off the shelf solutions if they are appropriate. But if you don't have the time or expertise what I bring is a focus on your needs wrapped up in a unique design with everything you want exactly where you want it.

The web is difficult place in some ways, endlessly variable factors like what browser, what computer platform, what software can make it technically challenging to keep a site working well in all scenarios. Security is another issue, so is ease of maintenance.

My belief is that you should spend your time doing what you do best and use a service that supports you in your efforts.

If you are selling services or products you need a good back end. Good CRM, good data management, your choice of payment gateways and easy communications with your clients.

We can create an online shop, or a sophisticated bespoke database . Our aim is to make it easy for you client and just as importantly easy for you.

Not everyone can write good copy. Ever fewer understand the particular needs for website copy to be focussed, relevant and search engine friendly.

My background is as a creative director in advertising agencies. I have many years experience in providing copy that sells, that recruits and persuades.

It's actually kind of easy to make a website. What isn't such a doddle is making it look good. My background is as a Creative Director in direct marketing agencies.

I have wealth of all round creative and design experience and a particular eye for pixel perfect detail but all delivered from a client-centric perspective. Sure, design is all about the 'pretty', and I have no trouble doing that but I believe that design is the process through which the marketing message is delivered and that only measurable results count.

Anything else is wrapping paper, and we all know what happens to that.
