How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Depends what the client wants or is trying to achieve. Bigger property, more space, more bedrooms? Loft conversions depend on the height of the roof inside, can they expand the property, will it effect the neighbours. can you sacrifice losing a room down stairs to accommodate the new stairs(bungalow).
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Planning, Design,building regs, roof alteration or removal, new floor and roof to increased height(if required). internal layout (to clients specifications), 1st fixing plumbing, electrics and new stairs . insulation and plaster boarding. top plaster finish. internal finishes i.e. carpentry wood work, tiling(if ensuite formed).
Decorations. Final sign off by local building control.
What do you love most about your job?
Always been a carpenter, my jobs my life! Giving the customer a decent standard of work and taking attention to detail.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have been a carpenter now for over 30 years and was taught the proper way to do things by an established carpenter back in the 1980's.
I went on site and saw what other carpenters were leaving as a standard of work and didn't want to be classed in the same mould so i decided to start out on my own and offer a better class of work and finish which i hope i have done for now over 20 years. i recently became a LTD company back in 2013 due to financial reasons.
