I needed to have a patch of concrete about 10 foot by 4 foot urgently painted outside a ground floor flat door at the start of the week. Shortly after Bark notifying me of 5 contractors, Mr Jones of TJ Services sent me a text within a few minutes. Other contractors were very busy and could not respond in the week.

To paint that small patch TJ Services quoted £175. I was away from London and needed it done urgently as the flat was being marketed so I agreed at 12 noon. However I stressed to TJ Services that the colour MUST be a mid-grey to blend in with the surrounding concrete.

Around 2 pm a TJ text advised me that the job was done so I paid the £175 but asked for photos. When I saw the colour painted it was NOT a conservative mid-grey but a bright light blue colour that clashed with everything around.

I asked a neighbour to have a look and the feedback was that it was a poor quality job too with a number of faults. So I asked TJ Services to at least repaint the patch a mid-grey and I would even pay for the paint.

Mr Jones refused and said I would have to pay the whole £175 AGAIN if repainted. That would have been £350 to paint a patch of concrete taking probably 2 hours in total from the existing timeline. I did try and negotiate by pointing out that if I was still not happy would I have to pay a THIRD £175 ? A total of £525 for a 10 foot by 4 foot patch ? Would that be reasonable ?

But Mr Jones was adamant he was not going to cooperate unless I paid the whole amount again. With such an attitude I decided to get another painter to redo the work.

I did explain to you on the phone that there are three grey floor paints that I use Nimbus Grey, Frigate Grey and Slate Grey. Which are the options available especially at this short notice for your "emergency repair". Nimbus Grey - is a silvery grey and described as a light grey. Frigate grey - is grey that is medium in colour and between Nimbus and Slate. Slate Grey - is a grey color with a slight azure tinge that is a representation of the average colour of the material slate aka dark. You asked for a mid grey which is what was used Frigate Grey which was the colour you chose during over phone consultation as you were not at the property. Pictures were supplied prior to you making your payment and you were advised on the phone to only make payment if you were happy. As explained I am happy to go back and repaint in a different colour, but this would be a the cost of another days labour. I am running a business not a charity. Hired Tommy to pattern wallpaper our hallway. Was very professional friendly, polite and tidy.

Since the hallway i have hired him to decorate our bedrooms and front room with the jobs not stopping there.
