Sales do not happen by accident

Most businesses are leaving 30% minimum or potential sales revenue on the table and the way to resolve this is to understand the right approach for your business in your market. In most businesses there is a need for both Hunters & Farmers, the key is to identify which you need right now to deliver the 90 day plan while planning for what you need to deliver both the 12-18 month and the longer term 5 year plan. Knowing the ratio of order taking to problem solving, how to avoid product pushing and making sure that what your people are saying is maximising the conversion ratios in your business will increase sales revenues even when marketing is ineffective.

Undefined customer service level strategy is one of the most common causes of low profit levels within an organisation so what level of service is the organisation trying to deliver? Is it McDonalds or the Savoy? Importantly how does that align with both he vision, plans and ideal outcomes, if the pricing strategy is low and the service level set high profits will be low. We need to be very clear on what the best approach to service is to deliver on the outcomes we seek.

Structure that grows organically as the business grows is usually inefficient and makes doing business in a productive way difficult. This is where we look at the long term plan and start to create the structure that will be needed once the business hits the ideal outcomes, this is the only way that the business can deliver the operations to deliver the goals.

Longer term planning is the difference between the good and the great businesses, only by creating a clear picture of what the ideal business looks like in 3 – 5 years’ time can we effectively plan in the short term, this is closely linked to the purpose and the vision created in section one.
Setting the goals & objectives and creating your 12-18-month plan
Once we have the longer term outcomes defined we can start to create a 12-18 month plan, this is as far out as it is prudent to enter into detailed planning, as everything within this approach in interlinked with everything else the further into it we get the easier it becomes, the goals that need to be achieved over the next 18 months will become clear from the vision and ideal

Businesses are logical machines and rely on logical numbers to perform, ignoring this reality can be disastrous so we need to understand the key numbers your business needs to measure, why are they important and how do we both find them and display them in an easy to understand way. Although some business information should be kept confidential it is important that the business is transparent to its team in what needs to be measured and why.
