I have used various dog trainers over the years and can honestly say I haven’t seen results in such a short space of time as we have with Simon , highly recommended and even though we are in Teesside will have no hesitation travelling to Manchester to work with Simon again . We have a Dogue de Bordeaux and a French bulldog Simon was great with both of them More...

I am a dog trainer in Teesside @clevelanddogs. I have had the pleasure of working with Simon and recently doing a joint training workshop with him which was a huge success. He is extremely knowledge and committed in his work. He had built up such an amazing business in the area and Teessides loss is very much Manchesters gain. Over recent months I have had the pleasure of meeting some of his clients who have spoken so highly of him. For anyone in the Manchester area looking for support with your dog I urge you to contact Simon. Your dogs trainer needs to be the right trainer and Simon is just that. Best of luck Simon in your relocation launch, not that you need it as I have every confidence you will smash it! More...

Simon helped me reconnect with my dog after the hassle of walking him near other dogs took all the fun out of dog ownership. He gave down to earth advice about walking strategies and very successful drills to improve the experience. Learning training games improved Baxter's fun during the day and he became much more attentive. Everything from feeding techniques to lead management was covered. Baxter is much happier and deals much better meeting on-lead dogs. Worth every penny. More...

I first came across Simon about a year and a half ago, when I was out on the field with my own dogs. Being into dog training my self I’m aware what I’d look for in a trainer. I stood and watched and it was incredible, kind of like a magician doing his magic. This ‘magic’ made himself engaging to both dog and owner. It was perfection. Eventually the opportunity arose to to take Bella to workshop ran by Simon and another trainer. I knew I had to go! Having a cataplectic dog, we don’t just take Bella to any trainer. It has to be someone I trust and uses the very best of training methods. Someone I trusted 100% . The recall workshop was fantastic, everything you’d want out of a work shop. It wasn’t pushy, it wasn’t trying to take a dog to a level they weren’t ready for and in turn being organised chaos. What it was , it was Informative, a great learning environment and as well as developing dogs to their tailored needs. Having trained with Simon, he is everything you’d want out of a trainer. Trust me if you’re looking for a trainer or dog walker Simon is your guy. Simons sadly relocated away from us, but Simon without doubt is worth the travel. Having seen his talent and it’s clear there’s something very special about his training methods he deserves every bit of success he’s earned. I honestly couldn’t think of anything more I’d want out of a trainer. You’re a credit to the training world Simon More...

Simon was fantastic helping us with our gsd rescue Betty Boo. His ability to read her body language and ours and give us an easy to follow protocol to work on has really turned her around. His wider support online, seminars and team ups with other trainers has inspired me to progress my career working with dogs. Thank you Mutt Nutt More...

We rehomed a lively 13 month old Cocker Spaniel, Charlie ,just over five months ago. He was very nervous , anxious and a little bit hyper at first. He hadn’t had much experience on a lead and had never been off lead. Gradually he started to settle in but my husband and I were struggling to stop him pulling on the lead and generally just keep his attention. Then The Mutt Nutt was recommended to me Right from the start Simon was wonderful with Charlie and us. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, patient and has a’lovely way’ of training dogs. With patience and gaining confidence Charlie is now doing wonderfully and 2-3 months down the line our walks are much more pleasurable, Charlie can go off lead and comes back to the whistle! Things are so much more fun for us but most importantly for Charlie too YES I would definitely recommend Simon ,The Mutt Nutt...... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ More...

From first meeting Simon, we were impressed that he had such love and passion for dogs. His respectfull and gentle approach was just what we were looking for. No raised voices, just a calm and confident manner. We contacted Simon after having a few issues with our dog, re' jumping up at everyone and generally being naughty! Simon taught us how we as his owners were unknowingly causing most of his behavour issues. not only did he teach our dog, he taught us how to behave and that respect is a two way street between dog and owner, our behaviour was giving him mixed signals and causing confusion. I would highly recommend Simon as passionate and capable, and would definately trust him again with my boy. More...

From the very start of our ongoing training either one-to-one, via FaceTime or over the phone, Si was professional, observant and extremely patient with us and our puppy as a family. He took the time to talk us through everything that we were doing well and not so well, without being condescending, which really helped us engage and understand exactly what we could do to work with Max more effectively and consistently. Since then our puppy has matured and we, as owners, have been taught through invaluable time with Si that there is always ways around correcting various learned behaviours and identifying when we can communicate more effectively with him. We fully recommend and endorse Si and hope to continue working with him collaboratively in the future - we cannot thank him enough! More...

I first met Simon at Dogs Trust Merseyside (me volunteering and him working there) and straight away, it was obvious that he cared deeply for all of the dogs he worked with. He knew everything about those dogs and treated each one as if they were his own. Simon is always calm and patient when dealing with his dogs and he has a great understanding and knowledge of canine behaviour. I learned lots from him. He was 100% committed to the care and welfare of the dogs at the Centre and I know that he will give that same level of care to the dogs he works with now or in the future. It will be hard for you to find someone better to look after, or help you to look after, your dogs. More...

Simon's passion for working with dogs is very clear and he has a lot of knowledge and experience. He is always able to offer advice and had no problem answering my long list of questions when I first adopted Pepi. We started working with Simon so I could better understand the breed I had adopted and thanks to him I now understand my dog's behaviour much better. Simon never pushes Pepi and his methods are very effective. Thanks Si! Highly Recommend! More...

Great guy with a great sense of humour, used Simon mostly for dog walking but also for Training. He explains complicated theories very simply and puts into a daily context. Our dogs love him to bits and go crazy when they see him, We've had previous trainers before who have charged a fortune who have been quite heavy handed with our dogs, for a big guy Simon is a real softy and never puts pressure on our dogs. Simon has walked my working cocker spaniel for the past 6 years. Zak adores him and goes mad when he sees him, in fact he gets the best reception of anyone I know! I had a few issues with Zak when he was younger. He would get a scent and would not come back to me. I discussed the problem with Simon and he spent time with us educating us and showing us recall and how to get Zak to come back. Our hard work paid off and now Zak turns on a sixpence when I call him. Simon is well educated in dog behaviour and is forever attending training courses to keep up to date. When I have to leave Zak with Simon i have extreme confidence that my dog will be well looked after and safe. Simon is a complete professional and I would thoroughly recommend him to look after any dog. More...

Q&As

Helping to ensure all dogs are enjoying their day as much as we are and away from discomfort and neglect!

I have worked with dogs for the last five years including as a specialist trainer and rehabilitation officer with Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog charity, as well as The Guide Dog's for the Blind. I was also selected to work in Norway for a dog sledding adventure group as a dog handler and trail guide, working in minus 40 degree temperatures both caring for and training 30 Greenland dogs (husky types).

The majority of my work has been kennel based. During my time, I have sadly watched many dogs deteriorate in this environment and have a very stressful life for reasons that could have been avoided with proper education and handling in the first place. On the flip side I have successfully rehabilitated and trained 100's of dogs from a vast variety of issues and backgrounds.

I love all dog breeds, big, small, cute, quirky and have become an ambassador for the much maligned bull breeds. Many people have a negative association particularly with "Staffies" but in my experience they are the one of the most affectionate, communicative, gentle breeds and can make the perfect pooch with the correct handling (like all other dog breeds).

A prime example of this is my noble steed, Rocks. He like many is a rescue with a particularly harsh background and so naturally had various behaviour issues, particularly around other dogs. With time, patience and the correct training he is now much more confident around other dogs and indeed now has many many dog friends!

My passion is educating owners in how to communicate appropriately with their pooches, ideally from the moment the dog enters their life, before bad habits have a chance to take hold.

I look forward to helping you and your pooch strive to create a happy lifestyle and relationship together.

-Simon
(and Rocks)

Sadly, unlike many other trainers, I will never force or put pressure on your dog. Training is about breaking down into small chunks, making it as fun an easy for our dogs as possible to ensure they have a positive association with whatever we are trying to teach them, rather than bullying them do it!

I am also able to explain complicated studies and theories into everyday life examples which will help you as the dog owner understand more about your dog and effectively train you as well as your dog!

Services

One of the very first online dog coaches. Offering you convenient and instant, video calls with you and your four legged friend. Whether that's in the park, your garden or in your living room. This enables you to demonstrate issues live at a time and place that suits you.

I have spent several years working with world leading organisations as a Specialist Dog Trainer and Rehabilitation Officer. I operate (and teach) positive reinforcement training/lifestyle methods only and discourage; negative/punishers and dominance theory. Maybe your dog is barking at other dogs, grabbing the lead or won't stop jumping up? Whatever you are struggling with I can help.

It is paramount that our furry friends get enough exercise and enrichment each day as this can help prevent behaviour problems developing in the first place. I can offer your dog a variety of different walks to suit them. Maybe your dog isn't comfortable around other dogs? Perhaps your dog has a unique medical condition? Whatever your dog needs I can help.
