Houlies (noun) - wild, drunken brawls, especially at Penny Weddings.
The Houlies formed in 2017, when like-minded musicians with a love of traditional music came together from across the North-East of Scotland. A four-piece ceilidh band, The Houlies deliver a modern, funky, and energetic sound more in keeping with that of a contemporary trad group than a Scottish Country Dance band.

What do you love most about your job?
We have the pleasure of celebrating many special weddings, birthdays, graduations and other milestones with some amazing people. We love our job!
What inspired you to start your own business?
We are a group of musicians who love playing at ceilidhs. It seemed a natural progression to start a professional ceilidh band!
Why should our clients choose you?
We are a young, professional and energetic ceilidh band. We play upbeat, toe-tapping, modern traditional music sure to attract even the least enthusiastic dancer to the dance floor!
Ceilidhs
We understand exactly what makes a successful ceilidh, from the initial enquiry to the last note of Auld Lang Syne.
Size is no issue, and we will happily play for both intimate and large ceilidhs. Past events have spanned from dinner parties of twenty, to balls of three-hundred.
We are able to walk your guests through all of the dances, to make sure that no one is left out, and often play at events where many of the guests have never experienced a ceilidh before.
A standard ceilidh with us is three hours long, with a half an hour break in the middle; as we have found that this format works particularly well. However, we are able to play for longer and shorter periods of time - and often do.
We also offer a disco service following the ceilidh.

Weddings
We recognise that a wedding is such a special event, and that the entertainment is such an important part of the big day.
A ceilidh is the perfect entertainment for the wedding reception, allowing family members and friends of the newlyweds to meet new people in a fun, memorable and entertaining way; and as we call all of the dances before we begin, even the youngest members of the wedding celebrations can get involved. Many of our wedding guests have come from all over the world, with no past experience of ceilidh dancing, but never fail to have a great time experiencing such an authentic Scottish tradition.
If so desired, we will take the time to arrange and learn a song of your choosing for your first dance and can help you choose a song which will sound great on our line-up of instruments.
As well as providing a ceilidh for the evening reception, we also frequently provide traditional and classical music throughout the day - often playing during wedding ceremonies and drinks receptions. We also offer a disco service following our ceilidh.

Traditional and Classical Background Music
We can provide the perfect soundtrack to your event. From drinks receptions to garden parties, we can play a mix of traditional and classical music, creating the perfect atmosphere.
Depending on what you are looking for, we can tailor the lineup of the band, and provide a duo of fiddle and piano for a more acoustic sound.
