Q&As

Kate works closely with rescue organisations and is a current volunteer for the Greyhound Trust. For Kate, the most enjoyable aspect of dog behaviour is the journey of positive change and seeing how reward based methods serve to provide an enjoyable experience for the dog as well as making a real difference to their behaviour.

Kate's interest in the rehabilitation of canine reactivity began when she adopted Harry, a Doberman cross breed. Harry was taken into to the care of the rescue sanctuary from an abusive background. When Kate adopted Harry their bond was immediate but unfortunately Harry was still fearful of both other people and other dogs. This fear manifested itself in what, to the untrained eye, would be called aggression. If somebody got too close for comfort Harry's "fight or flight" response would kick in. If he felt unable to flee (for example due to being restrained by a lead), in his mind his only alternative was to fight. Over a lengthy period which took both Kate and Harry on a journey filled with education, happiness, frustration, tears and eventually success, pride and joy, Kate helped her best friend not only to overcome his fears but to actually enjoy walking in public. Harry is now a very elderly gentleman and has lived a long and happy life, always enjoying new experiences and spending plenty of time at his favorite place - the beach. If you met him now you would never know about his past as a "reactive dog".

Passionate. Patient. Persistent. Pet-lover. These are just a few of the characteristics that describe Kate. Having worked with rescue dogs from a young age Kate knows each animal is different, and she will work with yours to give them the specific guidance they need.
